Weird packaging

So I just bought some new boxers, three in a pack. This pack had a ziplock seal. Why would it have a ziplock? To seal in freshness? It's not like I'm going to put my boxers back in the bag once I open it. This bag will never be used again, so why bother adding a ziplock to it?

My curtains came in ziplock bags. The ziplock bags are great because they are just the right size to store documents in.

Maybe instead of looking at the packaging as being weird you could look at it being reuseable and find a use for it?

Socks are the same way.

Maybe they do it so people can "feel" the material or test for size.

Otherwise they'd destroy the packaging, which people will do.

Maybe it saves money in the manufacturing process? Instead of having two production lines , one for sealed bags and one for ziplocks, they decided to consolidate. I'm sure it didn't bother the underwear maker much on which bag they received for the product.

Could it be a recycling ploy? perhaps they want you to re-use the package for other things or maybe they just bought a truckload of irregular zip-loc bags hahaha, I can't see it being cheaper to manufacture a zip-loc style baggie than the old heat-press-sealed ones so it must be some concession for a tax break by offering a supposed " green " package.

Having worked retail, I have no doubt it is the retailer's demand for it. Customers want to touch and feel the product, so they rip the package open. Then, if they decide to buy it, they will take an unopened package to the register. The opened product often cannot be resealed, and usually ends up never being purchased, or getting damaged.

If there's resealable packaging, the store doesn't lose money as it can easily be put back in without so much wear and tear.

I've bought those, too. And the socks. Sometimes I will use one pair out of a package, to put into rotation with the ones I already had, as a replacement for a worn out pair. The rest of the new ones stay clean and able to be found when left in the package. That helps a lot when the next worn out pair needs to be replaced. If the package for the new ones is tossed out, pairs may become separated and misplaced and even dirty....depending upon where they wander.

I buy them as well as it's more cost effective to buy the larger package and then only remove what you need right then. I remove further pairs as the ones I'm wearing wear out/get lost/torn. Same with the socks. Great idea.

Gumy headphones, which I love because they're only 10 bucks, come in this creepy, nigh-invincible packaging. Unfortunately, I love opening things with my knife, I end up cutting my headphones in half three out of five times. :(
