Weird O'Brien Line

I was watching Captive Pursuit today, and I noticed an awkward line that O'Brien delivers while trying to fix Tosk's ship. He makes a joke, but soon realizes that Tosk won't understand it, so he follows it up with:

"I'm sorry, it's in my nature. You're the most natural straight man I've met in ages."

I don't even want to think about the implications of that quote...

BTW, if that line confused you, what would you think of this line were you reading through Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper?"

Yeah the manner in which he used the word, it was geared as someone who's "green" or inexperienced in all the slang or alternative meanings of something or someone.

It could also be related to the term "Straight Shooter" which means they're direct in their approach, they don't take or understand guff-talk, don't beat around the bush, etc.

It wasn't a reference to being homo- or heterosexual.
