Weinsteins Buying Back Miramax?

Dusty Ayres

Commodore
Happy days are here again! Disney has reportedly chosen Harvey and Bob Weinstein’s $600 million bid to reclaim Miramax Films, the label they started 31 years ago before breaking away in a rift with… Disney, which acquired the minimajor in 1993. It’s like a giant schadenfreude sandwich on rye, but don’t worry about it.

Weinsteins Buying Back Miramax?

I thought they were bordering on broke because of all The Weinstein Company's failures?

Ah, yes...sorry, I didn't link to the source article from the one you posted.

They sold it for $80 million, and they're buying it back for $600 million? Ouch.

^ That's too bad. They probably wanted more movies they could mismanage, mismarket and have wasting away on the shelf for years.

The less the Weinstein brothers are in charge of (especially Harvey) the better. Their cutthroat nature when it comes to editing, re-editing, and distribution haven't done a favor to American cinema.

I just did a review of The Last Legion, and you can clearly see Harvey's mish mash influence and 'make it faux-LOTR' all over what might not have been a bad little movie. Typical execs who only see dollar signs and not story or quality.
