I'm not too sure if this is the right place to ask but seeing as you guys seem to know nearly everything i thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm thinking about doing my own web site. some of it will contain trek related stuff other bits stuff I've done. What i was wondering is that is there a program i can use to build the website or do i need to know anything about programing?.
I've absolutely no experience in writing programs so i haven't a clue in that area. so mayb e a prgram that can help dersign one preferrably a free one in case i dont like it.
also what hosting is there that is free or rather the best one to do that is free in case i can't get the hang of it
any help would be appreciated thanks

Best free program would be notepad but then you would need to learn HTML, so what your after is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) like FrontPage or SharePoint, which while being the usual Microsoft rubbish you may already have if you have their Office suite on your machine.

Otherwise theres some free hosts such as Freewebs.com which have a novice mode that allows you to build a page on the web. Only problem is if you use one of their free accounts you have to have a banner on your page (which isnt too bad) and you can only save about 50 files on their server (I think) but you can solve that by hosting most of your images on Photobucket.

http://www.freewebs.com/team-sart/ is a site I built (from scratch (well from a tutorial I found really) not using one of the templates) and hosted on freewebs for friends airsoft/reanactment team, the banner is the bright blue bit at the bottom, doesnt seem to bother them.
