webcam recommendations, please

I am not sure if it fits better here or in MISC, Please feel free to move the thread.


For quite a while I've been thinking of getting a webcam but there are so many that I am not sure which to pick. The ratings at Amazon are always interesting and it seems that many have a worse quality than they advertize for and quite a lot have software- or compatibility-problems.

I currently use Win Vista (32 bit) on an old triple-core PC with 4 GB RAM and both an ATI Radeon HD 3200 and a 3450 graphics card.

I would like to use the cam for skype, google plus and to record short video blogs.
The camera needn't be wide-angle but ought to have a good resolution, good sound and should make as many pics per second as possible so that the image doesn't lag or jump (this appears to be a major issue with the cameras I read about on Amazon)

Can you recommend a cam that would fit both my system's and my personal requirements?

Most webcams suffer the same shortfalls. That's probably why no one's had a good recommendation.

Logitech and Microsoft both make pretty good webcams.

Yes, I already had an eye on logitech and microsoft but then I read the user comments on Amazon and apparently both have major problems. That was what made me start this thread.

My appologies for the delayed reply - spent the weekend with my family and got only 2 minutes computer access to start the misc avatar poll. And at my flat I am without internet access again this week - for unknown reasons the line breaks down at irregular intervals. Sometimes for weeks. My ISP can't find the reason. It's quite a nuissance.
