We haven't had a conversation about tipping in awhile

That's terrible that he did that, and terrible she got fired.

Doing God's work, eh Pastor? Stiffing the poor, then getting them fired. That's what Jesus would've done, I'm sure...

For real. I learned two things in college: 1) The three times it's acceptable for you walk ahead of a woman, and 2) Always respect the person serving you food.

That's quite the expensive God that customer has  around here the church tax is less than 1% (not entirely sure though; I haven't been a member for more than thirty years).

And service is included -A tip is merely something you give if you can and had exceptional service.

There's no "church tax" in the US. People voluntarily tithe their income to their own church. 10% is standard.

And, for those who might be curious or simply don't know, the three times it's acceptable for a man to go or walk ahead of a woman (per gentlemanly etiquette) are:

1.) In a revolving door, so you (the man) are pushing it.

2.) On an escalator or stairs, so she won't worry if you're looking up her skirt.

3.) When entering a taxi, so she won't have to slide over or hike up her skirt doing so.

Yeah, that story was awful. Not only did this pastor get their congregation to stir up shit for that Applebee's, but the waitress in question was fired. Fucking ridiculous.

Yeah, my response to a message like that would be, "Because I have bills to pay and God doesn't, you sanctimonious shitbag." I mean, if I'm gonna get fired anyway...

The correct answer should have been "What does God need 10% for?"

Because he clearly gets paid below minimum wage.

This story reminded me of this thread, so I hope no one minds a bit of necromancy. ;)

I hate you. I'm getting all :klingon: just thinking about tipping again now.

Well, next time you get a receipt asking for a tip, just write "Durga bless you!" instead.

I know it's a joke but I was trying to figure out why that seemed so wrong to me. Not only is it an insult to the waitress, but it feels like an insult to my god as well. Like, if I were attributing human emotions to my god, I'd think that she'd be ashamed of me for behaving in such a way.

I always get a bit nervous with revolving doors so I appreciate anyone going before me. And yes to number three, I wish more guys thought about this!

While I don't believe in any gods at all, I would agree that referring to them in such a way (as the pastor did when filling out the receipt) does cheapen and insult the god in question.

The only thing I admit a man can go ahead of me involves the huge brake horsepower in their arms. My OH can lift stuff that I can't even push with my full (and not inconsiderable) weight. The fact he puts me on the other end of said stuff and expects me to reciprocate is somehow endearing, after >2 decades.

I have a hard time believing a real Pastor would: A. Write what he did on the receipt, and B. Call the restaurant and actually try to get people fired. I really hope that Applebee's hires the waitress back and that the Pastor is identified. Does anyone know if he has been?

I knew #2, but I thought the other two were; if there's a war on -and- if they're both Muslim.

This story seems to have mutated, because the pastor is, in fact, a woman. She also apologized, and I have not seen any reports that she demanded the termination of multiple employees.

These stories do tend to mutate as a news agency without any kind of agenda reports the facts rather than the gossip.
