We Are ODST

So, I wrote a paper on the last Halo commercial campaign and the marketing team sort of upped the ante with the ODST campaign:

While I'm probably not going to pick up the game, this trailer alone almost changed my mind. The best part of it is that it's in Russian, so at least it pretends that humans are more than just Americans and people who speak English with funny accents.

Unfortunately, the game's cast is basically the male cast of Serenity, so I know the game is nothing like this trailer. Too bad. But either way, the trailer is awesome.

Nice trailer, but not quite amazing.

That's cool so long as the other guys are just background or fodder for the aliens. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer playing American. Even the Call of Duty games kind of annoy me by constantly switching perspectives.

Yeah. Trailers usually are quite deceptive. I'm interested to see what kind of reviews the game gets.

I'm at a point where I'd be willing to play a game in Chinese, but I can't imagine any big game has been localized with Chinese dubs and run on a US Xbox. The few games I bought from PlayAsia just have Chinese manuals.

I dunno, I just think "Americans save the world" gets kind of old - even if they set Halo 3 in Africa and not some generic American city.

That was a very slick trailer. It reminds me of those live action trailers they had for halo 2 (or was it three.....)

They really need to get cracking on that Halo movie

Awesome trailer. Whoever Bungie/MS hires for their H3 marketing does a great job (clearly these people were also in charge of the BELIEVE campaign, judging from the style of the trailer)

Great stuff. Makes you believe that a Halo film could actually be great.

The Believe campaign were two independent campaigns - the segments based on the diorama and the Blomkamp stuff. I actually prefer the diorama bits because it's a perspective of war fiction we don't really get - unless it was the hokey intro to Saving Private Ryan that is.

Here is the Halo Believe short film

Yet another well done piece of marketing by MS ;)

I believe it was also directed by the District 9 dude...he was tagged to make the Halo movie. I'm not sure if thats the case though

He was, Peter Jackson (the producer on the project) chose him to direct it. The studio balked because they thought he didn't have enough experience. Jackson insisted, and thus the project fell apart, probably ending any chance of a decent Halo film being made.

No, the studios balked because MS wanted them to put up 200 million and receive essentially no rights other than a cut of the box office. Which really, is a horrible deal for any studio.

I mean, maybe the Blomkamp's inexperience may have influenced the decision, but I'm sure even Paramount must be getting a better deal with Transformers even though Hasbro must be cashing in.

Well, it was probably made just for an extra PR cycle... like that CoD6 commercial that they teased over and over again.
