WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

So, the final cut is about 170 minutes. But reports are tonight that cinemas are pushing for a more comfortable 118 minutes, cutting nearly an hour out of the movie.

So look forward to a butchered theatrical release and a super overpriced Bluray extended cut when all the (considerable) damage has been done.

Are they even trying to be successful with this series?
 
I'm not sure how long the master cut was always meant to be, but social media is treating the 118 minute cinematic runtime as a new announcment tonight. Which I take to be significantly shorter than it should be given the responce.

There was no announcement of runtime.

From the look of it some cinema chain in Australia posted that on their site and internet blew up in the usual "DCEU is ruined!" bullshit...
 
That would suck for Australians if their film board is being that restrictive over it. Is there a pattern of them trimming films down like that or is this a one off?

They're not gonna get a different movie, this might just be placeholder info posted on their website.

118 minutes is plenty of time to tell a story, I don't think runtime is the main problem people had with Suicide Squad, the Extended Cut is basically the same movie just slightly longer.

That said, I want my 3 hours! :D

One of the main problems with Suicide Squad is that it took too long to start telling its story. The first act was just a bunch of origin stories and exposition with no plot, no sense of stakes or direction to establish why any of it should matter. And then, when it finally did begin to have a plot, it just jumped straight to a third-act level of massive crisis. It was an astonishingly inept narrative structure.
 
JL's 121 minutes runtime would make it the shortest DCEU movie ever

143min MoS
151min BvS (theatrical cut)
123min SS (theatrical cut)
141min WW

And 559 minutes would make it longer than all of them combined.

It would be nice if we waited till they actually announce the damn thing before seeing where it ranks... :shrug:

Yes--oversimplification--or an attempt by a few to downgrade this version of Superman that is widely seen as a true moral character trying to mange being an alien with human upbringing in MoS/BvS, as opposed to the wildly altered, weak version seen in non DCEU productions, which bear little resemblance to any film or print version of the character.
