WatchMojo's Top 10 starship captains

WatchMojo.com's Top 10 list of starship captains in TV or movies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2dtt2r6jgc

Here is their list:
10- Turanga Leela (Futurama)
9- Jason Nesmith (Galaxy Quest)
8- Lone Starr (Spaceballs)
7- Zapp Brannigan (Futurama)
6- Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly)
5- Kathryn Janeway (Star Trek Voyager)
4- Han Solo (Star Wars)
3- William Adama (2003 Battlestar Galactica)
2- James T Kirk (Star Trek TOS)
1- Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek TNG)

Personally, I think I would flip 1 and 2. As much as I love Picard, I think Kirk definitely deserves the top spot.

Uh, scratch 5. Replace with the Moya crew, since they were a democracy. Also, scratch 7 since he was incompetent. Replace him with Admiral Akbar, that guy can sense a trap that he's already triggered.

Any list that doesn't contain Captain J.T. Estaban and Captain John Harriman is null and void in my book

That's definitely a subjective list....kinda boring. (Save for Captain Han Solo...and maybe Captain Kirk - the others I can probably do without, since I'm either not a fan of the shows or characters).

I'd definitely put Leela above Zapp. Zapp wasn't as funny after his first appearance.

Also Sisko commanded the Defiant, don't see how you don't put him above Janeway.

Not a terrible list overall.

Also, if you want to get technical, Bill Adama wasn't a "captain." He held the ranks of Commander and Admiral.

Not a dig against the Old Man, he could out-captain the shit out of anybody on that list. So say we all. :)

He never held the title of captain, but I'm surprised Darth Vader has never made one of these lists. He was the only member of the Empire's command structure with half a brain.

Isn't the CO of a ship the captain, no matter what his rank is?

Commander J.J. Adams of space cruiser C57-D in Forbidden Planet.

I'd like to add Commander John Koenig of Moonbase Alpha, but of course that wasn't exactly a starship, despite the fact that it managed to visit a new star system every other week.

Pretty much. I'm just being difficult :p

Also, Galactica wasn't a starship. It was a Battlestar

A starship is any space vessel that can visit different star systems on its own power. The Galactica could definitely travel to other stars on its own power. Battlestar describes the size and type of ship, like destroyer or frigate. So I would say that the Galactica was both a starship and a battlestar.

I read this as "WatchMojo's Clickbait Way To Sell Adviews by Pretending To Be A Definitive Answer to a Completely Subjective Question for People With Strongly Held Opinions". I'll bet this title would work for a LOT of their articles.

As I've said elsewhere, take it up with the people that submitted the list, and not the Watch Mojo staff themselves.

I'm happy Janeway was included, considering she and Leela are the only female captains on the list. For some reason, I thought Kirk would be #1. Maybe because he was the first (I think) starship captain but being the first doesn't make you the best.

No bloody wonder, since (as Anakin) he was a Jedi and a combat veteran, as well as a great space pilot.
