Watchmen Director's Cut DVD

Ethros

Vice Admiral
Admiral
First up just to say the Watchmen DVD is out on 21 July (US) and 27 July (UK)

There's also the Director's Cut double disc DVD out too, containing 24 minutes of new footage...

...among them these juicy nuggets.
Hollis Mason's death

Extended Blake's apartment

However, us folk in the UK are getting the right royal DVD screwjob as usual, and there's no Director's Cut for us. All we get is the 1 Disc version (theatrical movie & commentary) and the 2 Disc version (theatrical movie & commentary, and 2nd disc of extras)

Apparently because Paramount handles the DVDs in Blighty (compared to WB in the US) they've decided we're unworthy scum and aren't allowed to have the DC. That's nice of them.

There's also to be the Ultimate Edition out in December containing a new commentary and the Tales of the Black Freighter woven in, with new extras too.
Will that see the light of day on Region 2? Fuck knows

I'm picking up the director'e cut for sure. I'm pretty sure I'll be skipping the Ultimate edition. The Black Freighter parts were my least favorite of the book and I felt they dragged it down. I don't need a four hour movie being my only option when watching it.

I want the Director's Cut or Ultimate edition on Blu-Ray if they're released here. It's a bit expensive to import the Region A verion. Hope something news about it will come through.

Already have the single disc version thanks to my friend. I am saving up or will ask someone for the Ultimate Edition (five discs IIRC) when it comes out in December.

The Blu-ray release of the Director's Cut is region-free and can be bought for a reasonable price through Axel Music (€20.99 plus about €2.00 or something in postage). I pre-ordered my copy through them earlier in the week and they've already posted it.

Also disliked the black freighter parts of the book. Will be happy with the DC.

Is it me, or did the Black Freighter disc alter the ending so that his wife was dead by his hand, rather than having to live with this last look at her husband transformed into a beast?

I may pick it up in a year or so whenever I get around to buying a Blu-ray player. I love buying cheap DVDs, but I don't think it's worthwhile to buy movies shot in high-def on DVD anymore because you don't get the same bang for your buck.

I was planning on getting both the director's cut and whatever the ultimate edition turns out to be.
