Watching Buck Rogers In The 25th Century

The whole mask thing was maddening even as a kid. Why were they still wearing them all the time? Especially when it became more or less common knowledge they didn't look like us (everyone was calling them "lizards" by the time the series got going).

Makes one wonder - if the Visitors had been open from the get-go that they were lizards, and wore human disguises to make people more comforrtable (like they did with adopting human names), might it have gotten them any further in their takeover of Earth...

I mean, if humanity had known all along about the lizard thing, what would be left to shock them? ;)

That actually would have been an interesting route the remake could have taken. Probably more interesting than the one they went with.

What was the Draconians plan for the Earthican Nuclear wastelands?

If they like human slaves, or to eat human flesh, then surely they'd already picked off the rinky dink colonies, before then moved on to the homeworld that was 90 percent radioactive zombies from the pilot?

The MIss Cosmos "Beauty Pageant" was about genetic perfection, not physical beauty, even though the only way to measure genetic perfection happens to be from inside a bathing suit... I wonder if any human girl Zombies from out side the cities ever tried to audition/compete in the pageant?

The Draconians are obviously human (apparently just another lost colony of Earth). I doubt they had any desires other than to conquer and rule. They are basically the 'yellow peril' of the Mongols from the original comic strip, just writ large.

That said, one of my favorite moments in all of Buck Rogers history involves them. It is, IIRC, only in the theatrical cut of the pilot episode. Ardala has (foolishly) ordered the Draconians to begin the invasion of Earth. King Draco sends a hologram and rips Kane a new one:

Draco: WHAT in the name of the realm is going on? You are attacking while my ships are still hours away?
Kane: I'm...just following orders.
Draco: And just whose orders were you following?
Kane: Your daughter's, sir.
Draco: And did she order our ships to disintegrate as they enter battle? If either of you survive this greatest debacle our realm has known, YOU will answer to ME!

As cheesy as the acting in this series tends to get, Joseph Wiseman really nails it there.

And in the same episode, Kane is complaining that they'd be ruling Earth if Ardala hadn't let Buck on board, and Ardala replies "This wouldn't be necessary if you were more of a man!" :guffaw:

I think there's a Buck Rogers Wiki which includes "facts" from the Role playing game, which I read some of last year while researching for a fanfiction which was Buck Rogers vs Terminator vs Knight Rider vs The A-Team... Aliens had been raiding the planet for resources, including Heronomous Fox since in a sleeper tube, since shortly after WWIII.

There's also a line you can't get away from, how the Draconians rule three quarters of the universe. That is a lot of real estate, and you'd need a Googleplex of soldiers to garrison that sort of territory.

Adarla said she had 29 sisters, so maybe her brothers were all killed at birth, but her mother must produce huge inhuman litters or the Emperor had at least 30 wives.

Maybe Kane was neutered

In retrospect, from what we know "historically" about a Sultan protecting his harem, every male that worked near Aldala, should have been neutered, since any baby coming out of her is an heir to the empire, and the beginning of a civil war that might slaughter trillions.

Although they have the science to put drugs in the air or the food, to make sure that every one is temporarily chemically castrated. No one has to cut anything off.

What would be left to shock them?... the fact that they wanted to feast on humans or steal Earth's water supply.

Ok, I admit I don't quite remember the series, but were all the humanoids we encountered on the show supposed to be offspring of humanity? Or were they "real aliens", and the showrunners didn't even bother to put a lumpy Star Trek forehead on them?
