A few months ago, I decided to start watching all Trek chronologically, from Broken Bow to Living Witness. I am in ENT Season 3 ATM, and I really enjoy it. That feeling of nostalgia many people (apparently) have when watching TOS, I get when watching ENT, as it was the show that introduced me to Trek. I just decided to do a review thread about it, to talk about episodes and stuff. I watched "Doctor's Orders" yesterday, so I could start with that one, but I'll go back a few episodes to start with my favourite ENT episode.
Proving Ground:
The epsiode starts out nicely, with Enterprise picking up the kemocite signal they planted in "The Shipment". I was getting a bit tired of all the filler episodes before this one, an it's good that the story is moving along again. When they were saved by the Andorians, there is this funny shot of Shran's antennas behind Archer's head. The epsiode has a lot of these little funny moments, like when Shran tells the Xindi he is from the Andorian Mining Consortium, looking for Archerite. Throughout the episode, I kept hoping the Andorians would actually join Enterprise in the search for the Xindi weapon, even though I knew how it would end (I have seen it before). The fact that they didn't is one of the only things I don't like about this episode.
Score: 9 (I give scores out of 10, BTW)
Stratagem:
We learn to know Degra in this one. When I first saw it, I thought it was another episode like "Twilight" until they showed the deception. I think it would've been even cooler if they had shown Archer opening the door from the inside, so it would have looked as if he was stepping into space. The whole deception of Degra is amusing, especially the last scene when they pretend they have arrived at Azati Prime, and Degra shouts "You'll never get close to the weapon! Our defense perimeter will destroy you!". A problem with the episode is that the Xindi aren't exactly being clever to have their main weapon designer investigate a system were they were just attacked by two enemy ships in a small, weak spacecraft.
Score: 8
Harbinger:
I remember hating this episode when I first watched it. I don't remember why, though, and I liked it this time. The plot with the Sphere-bulider test subject isn't done very good, but the Trip-T'pol and Reed vs. Hayes plots were pretty good. I also liked the scene were Archer got really angry at Reed and Hayes. It was really different from how easy-going he normally is to his crew (still believable, though, as they were indeed behaving like 5 year olds).
Score: 6
Doctor's Orders:
I like Phlox, and I like Phlox-centered episodes (Even "Dear Doctor", bad though the final decision was). When T'pol suddenly showed up, I thought it was a rather stupid mistake by the writers at first, as Archer wouldn't have placed Phlox in command with her awake, but this is of course explained by the twist at the end. That also explains why she didn't help him at all in engineering and when hunting for the Xindi. An interesting thought is that Phlox's subconcious probably came up with the T'pol hallucination to keep Phlox rational, as he would probably have gone insane without her.
Score: 7
