Watching ABC's Dinosaurs on DVD

Sephiroth

Vice Admiral
Admiral
wow, i cant believe this show has held up so well, did you know that Michael Dorn and Chris Meloni (of SVU fame) did voices on this show?

"NOT the mama!" :D

My favorite episode is the one where Earl switches minds with the tree.

That show was... interesting So much potential but in the end turned out to be crap.

Building a show around a "cute baby" and a catch phrase is never a good idea. About as good an idea about building a show around an annoying neighbor who beings as one-off character but becomes the star.

"I'm the baby! Gotta love me!"

Man, I miss that show. I gotta rent it on DVD sometime...

Joy

This show was great at first, but it became far too preachy and tedious. There's nothing wrong with having a message, and I largely agree with the show's politics, but the problem was that the social-consciousness stuff became so heavy-handed and ponderous that the show became more a sermon than a sitcom.

From wikipedia about the ending:

The series finale of Dinosaurs concerns the irresponsible actions of the dinosaurs toward their environment, and the ensuing Ice Age which leads to their demise. The episode begins with the failure of a beetle swarm to show up and check the spread of a form of creeper vine. The reason is later shown to be the destruction of the beetle's breeding ground to create a wax fruit factory.

The Wesayso Corporation takes charge of the attempt to destroy the vine, which it does by spraying the planet with defoliant. The operation destroys the vine, but kills off all plant life on the planet as well. B.P. Richfield assumes that the creation of clouds will bring rain, allowing the plants to grow back, and so decides to create clouds by dropping bombs in the planet's volcanoes to cause eruptions and cloud cover.

The dark clouds instead instigate global cooling, and viewers are left in no doubt as to the fate of the dinosaurs. The final scene of the series depicts a color-warped broadcast from newscaster Howard Handupme, eerily staring into the camera in a slowly freezing studio, and droning, "And, taking a look at the long-range forcast, continued snow, darkness, and extreme cold. This is Howard Handupme. Goodnight. (pause) Goodbye."

The credits then roll over a shot of the Sinclairs' house, slowly disappearing beneath a snow drift, while a melancholy string instrumental plays. The episode contains a clear, dark message of environmental responsibility, and, while not overt in its portrayal of the extinction of the dinosaurs, the episode was still a marked change from its normal humor and merited a parental warning in the TV listings that the episode might frighten or disturb younger viewers.

yeah, Urkel (family Matters) only lasted what? 2, 3 seasons,

and for the guy who put up the summary of the ending, the summary left out B.P. Richfield manipulating Earl into dropping the nuke into the volcano
