In the novels the Borg have been defeated. This happened before Spock disappeared. You'd think that Spock would also mention that to the Federation. Save billions of lives not just in the Alpha Quadrant but all across the galaxy.

I wouldn't say the Borg were "defeated." More like freed or ascended or something. And it's not really anything the Federation has any possible way to replicate.

As for the Botany Bay, my guess is the Klingons found it while investigating the black hole and the battle between the Narada and the Kelvin on their border in 2233.

According to an easter egg in the STO novel The Needs of the Many, the novelverse and Star Trek Online are alterate realities.

According to the 29th century time cops in Watching the Clock, every timeline where Janeway didn't piss the Borg off in "Endgame", leading to the big events of Destiny is completely overrun by the Borg by the year 2600. Outlook for both STO and the JJverse: Not so good.

New reality? Hell yeah, give it us here, it was necessary and leaves all possibilities open. Don't do the same story several times over! New realities should mean new stories and new opponents.

What do you suppose Bajor is like in the 23rd century? If Spock keeps his mouth shut, no one need find out about it for a very long time, however the butterfly effect could cause someone to discover it even sooner.

Also the Ferengi could be contacted sooner, I know they're probably way out there, but if the 23rd century Federation knows about them and where they are, they could send out a dedicated mission just to contact them. What about that Dyson Sphere discovered by Scotty and the Enterprise D, Spock would probably be aware of such a large artifact out there, and probably should tell the Federation about it, if only because it is a navigation hazard as Scotty found out.

Exactly what Kirk did in Space Seed. Put them on an uninhabited planet, but this time put markers in orbit.

And, once that's done, make clear to anyone going near that star system the importance being able to count the number of planets in it. Just to make doubly sure.

A lot of that stuff should be too far to reach in the 23rd century. Especially Bajor, which was a two week trip from Earth at maximum warp in hte 24th century. Although the Borg have shown up in the YA novels.

I completely agree. A Dyson Sphere is pretty much an alternative universe all on its own! What's more they barely knocked on the front door. Which will need fixing of course, before the Vulcan refugees can move in.

Yeah, that's just what this new universe needs. More Borg, more Bajoran Wormholes, more Ferengi, and more Dyson Spheres.

But old stuff can be used in new ways. I think Bajor is not occupied by the Cardassian Union in the 23rd century, who knows what sort of government it has at this time, or whether they'd be friendly or not, but the wormhole is still there even if the Bajorans are currently not aware of it, but Spock knows.

The Dyson Sphere is still a booby trap waiting for someone to run into it, like Scotty did, I think Spock would feel he has a moral responsibility to tell them about it if only to place warning buoys around it. We never did find out who built that Dyson, it was just a device to bring Scotty into the 24th century, so it could be further investigated in the 23rd century.

Also if Scotty could reach it in his starship, then its probably reachable in this new timeline as well, as apparently the starships have been uprated from the original series, perhaps having something to do with Nero's anachronistic appearance in the 23rd century simulating further research into improved starship designs.

Your right, if Vulcans want a home, that could be it!, there is a lot of room inside that Dyson however, its original inhabitants were burned out by a solar flare thousands of years ago, so they won't mind vulcans moving in, and Spock probably knows about it too, the discovery of something as significant as a Dyson Sphere was probably all over the news in the 24th century, and Spock's mind tends to accumulate and store away a lot of facts like that. If Spock knows about it, he'll probably tell.

As far as this being an alternate timeline, as a long time Star Trek fan, I get to have my cake and eat it too. I get a reboot, and I get an in-universe explanation for it. That's Star Trek if you ask me.

As far as Prime Spock goes, the character, it would seem to me, is a treasure trove of stories based in the NuTimeline, but with a connection to the Prime timeline. Spock is physically only 157 years old (102 if you go by his resurrection date). He's in a new playground and has almost another lifetime and he has the chance to do good in this timeline. Spock and the displaced Vulcans could even achieve an understanding with the Romulans over the next century, changing the entire quadrant.

I think it's cool that writers can write a novel set in the NuTrek timeline with a character from the Prime timeline.

There is a bookshelf full of Star Trek Novels at the book store, and for the past few years I have been looking for novels set in the New Star Trek continuity, and all I have seen thus far has been a comic book that rehashed the Original series episodes with the XI characters starting with "Where No One has Gone Before." Gary Mitchel makes another appearance, they go into the Galactic Energy Barrier that Elder Spock didn't warn them about and Gary Mitchel gains his powers, becomes like a god and has to be destroyed. Tsk tsk tsk, Elder Spock could have warned them and Gary Mitchel's life could have been saved, or perhaps he could have joined the Q Continuum, oh well!

Four post-STXI novels were written and slated for release in summer 2010 - but they were suddenly and mysteriously cancelled. Those who know why aren't telling.
