Was Tennant *Your* Doctor?

I was aware of the new Doctor Who when it first started back in '05, but I didn't really start getting into it until Tennant's first season. So yeah, I consider Tennant to be "my" Doctor.

Eccleston is my Doctor, my first and the one I closely associate Doctor Who with. but yeah, I am already missing Tennant. :(
He. Was. Awesome.

McCoy was the first Doctor I watched, but the show didn't grab me. I gave it another shot when the new series started. As some others have said, I liked Eccleston, but Tennant's take on the character is what made me a fan. He is my Doctor.

I'd say Tom Baker is my Doctor. He's the one I first saw as a kid and made me love the show.
That said, Tennant is definitely a huge favorite as well and I'm really sad to see him go.
But I have faith in the people who run Doctor Who, so I'm sure Matt Smith will be good too.:bolian:

Second that. Tom Baker's Doctor is the still the image I have in my mind when I think of Dr. Who. That said, I really liked Eccleston and Tennant, and the stories have gotten progressively better as the "new" series goes on.

I'm a little wary of the upcoming Matt Smith Doctor, but I am willing to give it a chance.

Tom Baker and Peter Davison are kinda tied for being the Doc's I grew up with, but I would say that Tennant has equalled Baker in my estimation with a fantasticly barmy but edgy portrayal of our favourite Time Lord. That said, I have never really disliked any of the Doctors (Three and Six are probably the lowest in my esteem, Six for the fact that he never really got a chance to quieten down and play it subtle, Three because he's just TOO smug-patrician) and am even one of the outspoken ones who think Sylvester McCoy's Doctor was great (once they got past the spoon-playing and metaphor-muddling). I'll definitely miss Tennant but am optimistic about Smith given the Moff's statements.

the first Doctor i remember seeing was Five. However, Seven was when i actually started to like it. But Ten is my favourite. (so far)

Although Tom Baker was my first Doctor, the one I grew up with and the one that even now, when I think Doctor Who, I typically think of the layers of clothing, floppy hat, long scarf and curly hair of Tom's. However, back then as a 6 or 7 year old, I wasn't really a "Doctor Who fan" per se; it was just a show I liked to watch, like The Dukes of Hazzard or The Incredible Hulk. I even gave up on the show after Baker left, my young mind not at all interested in Davison. It wasn't until McGann's movie that I really returned to the series.

Anyway, when the series returned in 2005 it brought back the memories of the show I had when I was a kid watching Baker, and I loved Eccleston in the role. I too was "gutted" (love the term) when he only lasted one series. I went into Series 2 not really expecting (or wanting) to like "the new guy" and I'd say during the first half of that series, I was still mourning the loss of 9.

Today, though, I would have to say that Tennant is "my Doctor" now. Indeed, as much as Doctor Who equals Tom Baker to me, when I think of "the Doctor," it's David Tennant's 10.

Tennant is my Doctor. I was aware of the show growing up, as my local PBS station did carry Tom Baker, but I never watched. I'm sure I didn't see more than a few seconds flipping channels, because I knew next to nothing about it before the show was revived. My first real exposure to the show was catching the end of several Series Two episodes when I'd get together with friends (one of whom is a long-time Doctor Who fan) to watch Battlestar Galactica. I didn't start watching the show for another year, though, when I started catching reruns of Series Three on BBC America. Tennant was my first real exposure to the show and I always think of him first when I think of Doctor Who.

That said, I've seen all the Doctors now, and while I like some more than others, I don't dislike any of them, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Matt Smith will bring. I'll miss Tennant when he's gone, but he's had a nice run with several classic episodes that I'll always be able to enjoy on DVD. To be honest, I'm kind of looking forward to my first "new" Doctor more than I am thinking about how I'll miss "my" Doctor right now.

Tennant isn't my Doctor; Tom Baker is. He will always be Doctor Who for me. After having said that, I am incredibly fond of 10 and I shall be desparately sad when he goes to the big Tardis in the sky. :(

I was a "Tom" boy, if that's the right phrase ;) and probably still am, but there's pieces of each of the Doctors that I love and on re-watching each and every one of them there's always something I've enjoyed (well maybe not "Delta and the Bannermen"!)

Of the new era Doctor's though it's Eccelston that most impressed me. From early on (after some godawful mugging in TEOTW) I thought he was "fantastic" and at the end of his reign I was becoming very anxious about the new bloke. There's little doubt that Tennant's brought a lot to the role - probably becoming even more 'successful' in the part than Tom - but I have begun to think his characterisation has become a little tiresome, almost a caricature, so I can honestly say I'm almost looking forward to his departure and the new broom that's going to be sweeping through the TARDIS.

(Having said that I can't help wonder what Tennant's Doctor under Mr Moffat would have been like - it might have brought a whole new freshness to his interpretation.)

Change is at the heart of Doctor Who - we should embrace it - and from the early signs of Matt Smith I can't bloody wait!

Tom Baker was originally "my" Doctor. I didn't really care that much about the subsequent Doctors, save McCoy, who I rather liked. Then Eccelston came along and hooked me again with his dark and edgy interpretation. But Tennant really sucked me in and brought back the joy and excitement and all the other emotions like I remember with Baker. So yeah, Number Ten is my Doctor now.

I was thinking of this exact thing earlier today. I was born in 1987, and I had never watched Doctor Who until the TV movie and I didn't really understand what was going on, and what was going on, it wasn't until the revival that I decided to watch it and, shamefully shot down Eccleston as The Doctor.

It wasn't until the last episode of series one I decided to watch it, because of the regeneration, and after I saw Tennant I was hooked. I watched, and loved every episode of series two, and it even made me watch the entire first series, the TV movie, and even some of the older episodes and series.

But yes, Tennant is definately my Doctor. But strangely each time I see Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor, I keep thinking to myself "he fits what my image of the Doctor, just as much as Tennant did", and for a short while, I actually forgot about Tennants final episodes and started to look forward to the Eleventh Doctor episodes (that was until I saw the trailer for Waters of Mars and the final episodes and was completely :O :O :O over Tennant again).

It's weird cause, I see Matt Smith, and I might be the only one who sees this, but to me he looks like both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston. He's young but I'd peg him at 30, not mid 20's.

I've been aware of Doctor Who through most of my life thanks to my parents watching it when they were children and watching an episode or two here and there. My first Doctor would be Chris Eccelston while MY Doctor would indeed be David. I agree that there is something about his performance over the years that has stuck with me since I first saw him regenerate from Chris. I'm probably going to get very emotional and cry during End of Time and it's followup.

Hell, no. Not even close, in fact. I may be the only person anywhere whose Doctor is, and always shall be, Jon Pertwee, and who places Tennant in the bottom two or three. To each their own, of course. :D

So, I was especially excited to read that Steven Moffat said that Troughton was HIS Doctor, too. I'm hoping that Matt Smith will bring some of the Second Doctor's characteristics to his own portrayal.
Suddenly my hopes for the Moffat era have swung sharply upward. I didn't know he was a Troughton fan; it would be great to have some aspects of that (wonderful interpretation of the) Doctor again. :bolian:

Steven Moffat says that about every Doctor...

Okay, maybe the first 5 at any rate.

Me, I don't lay claim to having a Doctor per say. I do tend to gravitate to those around in the 60's and 70's. As for the rest, there were some who needed to be around for far longer. They hold a place in my affection... for being a work in progress or never getting past the first hour on screen.

Jon Pertwee is my Doctor! I love David Tennant as the Doctor and he's probably one of my personal top sci-fi icons, but my first encounter with Doctor Who was watching BBC reruns of the Pertwee era in the late 90s or thereabouts, so that sort of stuff defines Doctor Who for me. Plus Pertwee was such a style icon!

Tennant snuck up on me, actually. When Eccleston left the show, I didn't think that the manic 10th Doctor could possibly measure up. Then 'Blink' and the 'Family of Blood' two-parter aired. Then I was sold. I'm extremely pessimistic that Matt Smith will be able to pull it off.

wamdue, I hate to break it to you guys, but they will *never* bring David Tennant back to replace Matt Smith, no matter what. I will bet you any amount of money on that. I lived through the era that replaced Tom Baker. A lot of fans wished for the same thing, that maybe Baker would come back if Peter sucked. It doesn't work that way, and I absolutely can say with at least as much confidence as anyone who has watched the show for thirty years, that there is NO chance of Tennant "un-regenerating" back into the role. Even if they brought 10.5 over from the AltUniverse (which they won't), he wouldn't be The Doctor. I am sorry to bust the fan-bubble like this. But, this is what Doctor Who is all about. Change and progression. Enjoy your Doctor while you got him, because once he regenerates, all you can hope for is an anniversary special one day... :techman:
thanks so much for that The how am I meant to sleep now?

Yeah, I know, brother. It's a tough thing to swallow. To this day, my ten-year-old heart still aches to see Baker's googly-eyes come bouncing back onscreen. So, here's hoping that we see Tennant again for the 50th Anniversary special... :techman:
