Was Martha's twin sister killed by Cybermen?

Why does me not thinking she's a particularly great actress imply I hate her? Whenever I see her interviewed Freema seems a lovely girl, extremly likeable and very pretty. I just don't happen to think she can act. I don't hate her.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

I usually know what people are talking about when they criticize something in Doctor Who. I know what they're talking about if they say that they think that Rose was a bit of a Mary Sue, or if they say that Tennant is too manic, or that the show's not serious enough or too fast-paced, or if they say that Russell T. Davies's writing is weak. I may not agree with them, but I know what they're talking about.

But I have no idea what the fuck they're talking about when they say that Freema Agyeman's not a good actress.

No need to swear :) She's as wooden as a cigar store Indian, and was really shown up when acting next to Catherine Tate, and heck even Georgia Moffat. Seriously watch the Sontaran 2 parter, heck watch the epsiode of Torchwood where she's outacted by a glove!

Martha came across as a bit stiff to me in "The Sontaran Stratagem"/"The Poison Sky," not Freema. I took it as Martha's sense of shyness resulting from it having been so long since seeing the Doctor and his disapproval over some of UNIT's actions.

Freema did just fine in "The Doctor's Daughter." And Georgia Moffat, while cute, was very wooden, I thought; there was no real sense of dynamicism, and her personality seems arbitrary.

Haven't seen Torchwood Series Two. No interest in seeing it either.

And she was wonderful throughout Series Three.

i agree that CT may be a better actress than FA, but c'mon Freema's barely been in anything whereas Catherine's a Shakesperean trained actress. Of course she's going to come off poorly in comparison, but shes not wooden!

Hey to be fair I was saying she wasnt a great actress from the Shakespere Code so at least I'm consistent. And it's odd but in season 3, whilst I wasn't the only voice saying it, I'd say I was in a minority. Interesting how many people have started saying the same thing. She just always seems slightly uncomfortable, like she still can't quite beleive she's got the job she has!

To be fair part of the trouble is how she's been written, especially in S3, but look at her recent appearances. Ok she was integral to the Sontaran 2 parter, but since then?

Completely irrelevant to The Doctor's Daughter, completely irrelevant in The Stolen Earth/ Journey's End, and of the 3 episodes of Torchwood she was in she only really had a sizable role in one episode. Still smacks to me of the producers shoehorning her in to fulfil a contractual agreement-either that or she has dodgy photos of RTD ;)

Hey at the end of the day acting, like so many other things, is subjective, but to me (and a lot of others) she's a poor actress. Her career certainly isn't suffering, but does seem to be a case of Who you know (pun intended)

As far as the post's original question, straight from Martha's and the Doctor's mouth:
Martha: I had a cousin, Adeola. She worked at Canary Wharf, never came home.
The Doctor:
I'm sorry.
Martha:
[softly] Yeah.
The Doctor: I was there in the battle.... [depressed look]
Martha:
I promise you Mr. Smith, we will find a way out. If we can travel to the moon, then we can travel back. There's got to be a way.
The Doctor:
It's not "Smith." That's not my real name.
Martha: Who are you then?
The Doctor:
I'm the Doctor.
Martha:
Me too, if I ever pass my exams. What is it then, Dr. Smith?
The Doctor:
Just "the Doctor."
Martha: How do you mean, "just 'the Doctor'"?
The Doctor: Just "the Doctor."
Martha:
What, people call you "The Doctor"?
The Doctor: Yeah.
Martha:
Well, I'm not. As far as I'm concerned you've got to earn that title.
The Doctor:
All right, better get started then.

And as far as the Gwen/Gwyneth thing:

Proper Doctor: Torchwood Hub, this is the Doctor, are you receiving me?
Gwen: Loud and clear, is Jack there?
Proper Doctor:
Can't get rid of him...Jack, what's her name?
Jack: Gwen Cooper.
Proper Doctor: Tell me Gwen Cooper, are you from an old Cardiff family?
Gwen:
Yes, all the way about to the 1800's.
Proper Doctor:
Oh thought so, spatial genetic multiplicity, it's a funny old world, now Torchwood, I want you to open up that Rift Manipulator and send its power to me!
