One of the fun things about art and freedom of thought is that even if not one of the hundreds of artists working on this movie intended such a reference, you're still free to read whatever you want into it. Great art exceeds the intentions of its creators.
In college, one of my professors had a story about how, for a movie he was working on, one wall of a set hadn't been completely painted, and they couldn't wait any longer to shoot the scene. The director said that the critics/film students would figure out what it meant.
