Was Keenser's Roylan Species Named For Deep Roy?

I'm reading that Keenser's species was identified in the comic Star Trek: Ongoing #14, Keenser's Story (2014?). Was Royla and the Roylan species named for Deep Roy, and is that Keenser's official species? I'm rewatching the Kelvin Universe films this week and I don't think I've heard any of Keenser's backstory in the films. I have so much respect for Deep Roy... it would be a wonderful homage to Deep if Keenser's species was named for him!

His only name in the film is "Get down. "

The IDW comic seems to be the one and only source for the bits about species and home planet. The comic is a licensed tie-in, but nothing originating there is officially official until it has also appeared on-screen in a Trek series or movie.

As for whether the species and planet were named for Deep Roy, that's speculation. Sounds plausible, but until Paramount says it's more than that, it remains nothing more than an impression.

Reading up on Keenser over on Memory Alpha and apparently Deep Roy was specifically sought for the role. Keenser came onboard the Enterprise because of an intervention by Pegg who felt it was too sad to leave him behind... One more bit of nice trivia, Deep Roy and Simon Pegg are the only two actors to have appeared in the science-fiction trinity of Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who. Who'd have thought that was such an exclusive club? Two.

The more I mull it over the more I'm certain it's a nice little nod. Deep Roy is an absolute legend who's kept himself busy in TV and film for decades/

Christina Chong (Who's Lorna Bucket and SNW's La'an) almost qualifies; she had a minor role in The Force Awakens, but her scene was deleted from the finished film. https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a40175094/line-of-duty-christina-chong-cut-star-wars-role/

If you include voice roles, you can add Alexander Siddig, who did several Doctor Who audio dramas and an episode of The Bad Batch.

Now..he wore contacts that had little stalks coming out of them like little TOS Pilot nacelle spikes right? (Giving a ghost crab look.)

Any pictures of those contacts by themselves?

Make for nice greebles.

Funny, I had just assumed his eyes were CGI, but I suppose contacts would have been considerably cheaper.

I am quiet sure Keensers eyes were CG generated. I thnk it was addressed in the bonus material of one of the movies.
