Was Fairhaven a brothel?

Guy Gardener

Okay, Janeway relieved herself and Harry made out with bovine in Fairhaven, and then for the ships "mental" health they had the program left running 24/7 where everything seemed incredibly innocent... Or more aptly, if they're less than innocent, that they're maximizing the suspension of disbelief about what's going on a few shanties over that the walls between their activities are as pretend as thier new partners.

You don't need to keep a program running 24/7 to simulate a brothel. Hell, the characters were acting as people - you know how much time you have to waste to get a person especially women into your bed?

What really should be the question - is why anyone would waste their time on a simulation of a Irish town, when they could just have built a simulation of a Brothel... or Risa, just show a statue and away we go, or some such that actually would relieve certain... stresses.

It was a knocking shop - with the added effect of allowing the crew to keep up a pretense that it was an innocent recreational area so nobody felt awkward when they were back at work

I already answered that question. "Suspension of disbelief". By pretending as magnificently as possible that these adult pacifiers are not just Adult pacifiers that the crew don't have to feel like chronic habitual masturbators operating in the light of day... It's bad enough that they eat communally, that they boff in groups too?

Fairhaven running 24/7 was part of one of the episodes, not something I was making up. :)

Fair Haven. The program is a decent concept, but the stories were worse than Threshold. UGH!

Knowing Tom, I wouldn't be surprised if the holographic ladies were a bit more...suggestible...than normal.

I kinda thought they were funny.

Guy , where do you get these ideas? You think outside the box even more than I do. :bolian:

It's only a brothel if you pay.

Unless they were "paying" with replicator rations to keep the holodeck up and running...

Who'd want to do it with a bunch of Irish Catholics whose sexual attitudes are still in the nineteenth century?

Unless Janeway added some more modifications we didn't hear about?

You don't pay if you're management, or a cop. At least those are the rules were I live. But then you get into the whole photons be free slave labour issues. Could anyone really say no to these Starfleet types, and if somehow the hologram continued to say no, and a person forced herself on some poor married guy, isn't that rape?

What I really I find interesting is that the Doctor was firstly in charge of the holograms "moral programming" on a superliminal level teaching his "flock" bible-good from bbible-bad, all the while telling people like Kathy that all she needed was a good flock, and these where just the flock to flock her numb and senseless. It was a distinct conflict of interest that the Doctor would have been preaching about the immorality of sexual flagrancy with one lot and telling the crew of Voyager to go for it these backward savage cherries are ripe for the plucking.

If it were a brothel you would be better off creating one from a timezone that believed in shaved armpits and deodarent.

Do you think Neelix was complaining about any of that when that (quite real!) Klingon Giantess was subduing him in Season Seven?

Shaving your armpits is lying.

Neelix is a giant rat creature who eats hair pasta, that man can't afford to be fussy ;)

He has high HIGH standards... After Kes, everyone would seem equally like slumming... Didn't he beat up Kim to get that girl? But here's the thingy, still in love with Kes, all spurned, and unrequitedly in love with Janeway... Men tend to imagine who they're actually with is who they are really in love with, if they know what love is that is... :)
