Was Ezri Dax a poor choice?

I don't NOT like her. I just don't have any feelings one way or another about the character. she was just as insipid as Jadzia. they should not have replaced Dax. better to let a bad character to die a horrible death than be replaced by a worse character that continues to live a boring life.

Ezri was a boring life :vulcan:

GOOD GOD MAN, she is a TRILL not a VULCAN.

I wasn't all too excited about Ezri at first..... well to be honest I thought she was a ninny.

Wait, I still think that. And I still prefer Jadzia over her.

But to be fair I must admit Ezri's character grew over the course of the season and I started liking her somewhat despite the fact that I find (yes, still) her annoying and a bit obtuse.

I find that she gets better as a character when seeing the shows in reruns. From 1998 - 1999 with the last season, she was a poor choice. As people did have a deep feeling about Jadzia. She has improve as the years drag on.

Sisko would be a GREAT prez, don't you think?! :)

okay, Ezri did grow on me a bit. but I was already upset about a lot of other stuff on the show by the time it ended, so she wasn't on my list of bitching priorities, ya know?

I watched the show from the pilot till the end, and despite my overall and abiding love for it, had a ton of stuff I didn't like and those took precedence in my mind. Ezri was okay! :)

There is problems with every series. And yes, if I could have written different stories. But that is good as me and I feel you can think outside of the box of DS9.

What if both the Ezri's did meet up on DS9 and they armwrestled? LOL

I think Jadzia would lose!

Hmm was thinking with the Ezri's the mirror Ezri and our Ezri sister.

Anyway, now you got an idea Ezri and Jadzia armwrestle .... hmmm ... I still bet on Jadzia. She is taller and therefore has longer arms.

But, if you like to role play female characters out sister I am SO GAME.

Talk to you soon sister :)

Ezri is tiny but strong.

write the fanfic! :techman:

Hey I am still a new member. So send me a PM. Think we have to use email until my 14 days are up.

I can make up a message board within 30 minutes and have it look sweet in 3 hours. I can be Ezri Dax and you can Be the mirror Ezri and we can write within a message board different ideas of the first meeting with the women.

Talk to you soon sister :bolian:

I like Ezri but would prefer Jadzia. To me Jadzia was the side of Sisko that represented the Federation. She was the go to person that Sisko would confide to. The Starfleet science officer who called the Prophets "wormhole aliens". The friendship he couldn't have with Kira at the start was given to Jadiza. Jadzia was more the old college friend while Ezri was the daughter of the college friend. Someone who Sisko would be fond off but obviosuly not have the same kind of relationship.

Jadzia and Kira were almost like McCoy and Spock. Science (Federation) vs Religion (The Prophets) compared to logic and emotions.

I will say that Ezri provided a better example of a newly joined Trill compared to Jadzia.

She was an utterly pointless character, and DS9's only weakness.

Yes, I will accept that Ezri Dax out of all the primary characters of DS9 was weak. Would even say Leeta was stronger then Ezri Dax, and she was not a primary character of the show.

Ezri Dax only had a single season and 26 episodes to build her character.

What if Ezri Dax was on 6 seasons and was replaced with Jadzia Dax for the last season. Think we would say then Jadzia Dax could have been an utterly pointless character.

I don't think Ezri was a 'bad' or 'poor' choice. I thought Nichole deBoer did fine and the character was okay, if a bit whiny at first.

However, for me the real question was whether they needed to replace Jadzia at all. And if they did feel the burning need to replace her with another Dax, why not make it a male to emphasize the uniqueness of the Dax character?

But really, I'm not sure replacing Jadzia was really necessary. And let's face it - getting the Ezri character up to speed took away valuable time from the Dominion War, which was at it's climax during season 7 and could have used lots more screentime.

I like Nichole and Ezri okay. I just think the timing was bad. Never a good idea to introduce a character in the seventh and last season of an arc-based show. It's too distracting to try and wedge them into the arc.

I believe it was because they didn't want it to be Kira and the boys. Whether that was a good idea or not is another thing. I could have done with no Dax in Season 7 and more emphasis on perhaps O'Brien and Jake. Perhaps one episode with a male Dax.

I agree here but we also had alot of fluff episodes even without Ezri. Not that "Take me out to the holosuite" was bad. I don't think removing Ezri would have made any difference really.
