Was Enterprise's Chief Engineer... (spoilers)

USS Triumphant

...before Scotty supposed to be a dig at Malcolm Reed? He sounded like him, including the thing he said about kicking Romulan butt.

at the theater where I saw it they played one of those turn-off-your-cellphone PSAs, and it featured Dominic Keating and a chimp!

Since so many people seem convinced Captain Robau was inspired by Vin Diesel....

I'm calling Jason Statham for this toasted, red shirt Olsen guy.

As for being Pike's Chief Engineer? You've got to be freakin' kidding me! Sure Star Trek is all about breaking stereotypes... but he seemed like a round peg in a square hole kind of guy.

Funny. :)
The one cinema were I've seen it (a few times) they show a beer-commercial before the movie that looks in parts like the red-matter-sequence at the end of the film... only with little beer-drops ;)

The actor is from Lancashire in the UK. I recall someone posting (in the first few days after general release) that the accent heard in the movie is his own and not a put-on one.
That would be a first...

Haha indeed.

And not every British character is a dig at Malcolm Reed ;)
I did think they went out of their way to use a word that would identify him as British though - who in Britain says "kick some arse", seriously?

OMG :alienblush: How cool would it be to have Vin Diesel in Star Trek as a Starfleet Captain.
He'd even make a good bad guy. :alienblush:

SIGN HIM UP ABRAMS! QUICK!

Oh, frak me, how awesome would that be?!? If they went the Klingon route for the next movie, I can see him as a Klingon take on Riddick so perfectly.

As for Olsen, I'm wonderi9ng if he was affected from that syndrome that deep sea divers get when they drop altitude too quickly...I don't recall the name or exact description of it, however.

Or, it could easily have been he was just an overconfident engineer.

I've seen that one a few times in front of Trek, too. I thought it was a clever commercial, but I couldn't help but see him as Reed up there. I'd feel bad for the guy, but he probably made more money off that one commercial than I've made in years and years...

I know who it is. He's a Brit, and the last show to feature a Brit was Enterprise. Enterprise also had a "Chef" character.

So, summing up - Brit, Chef.

The character was clearly intended to mock Gordon Ramsay. ;)

Mouahaha :guffaw:

I just got a mental image of Ramsay screaming at Ensign Sato "It's fucking raw!"

Never saw the Dominic PSA at my theater...or anywhere else for that matter. But I feel like I've seen it with all the talk about it on the ENT forums.
