Warrior's Death - A Star Trek Fan Film

Well done, the original DS9 horns punctuating it nicely as well...
Really appreciate that Borg, as mentioned it's a teaser and we wanted to show some interesting visuals and give the fans an idea just from watching it what era we're in! I do appreciate you taking time to watch it, it's been hard to get people interested these days sadly.

I had a really hard time understanding the voice through the music.
I'm sorry you had trouble hearing her, I know there's a few parts that there where she's talking through her teeth and it might be hard to hear for some. I'm sure we can amp it up when we get to the trailer portion. This is like I said, a teaser, and we're working towards getting our cast and crew together, but Covid has made it pretty hard right now.

Admittedly I have a bit of hearing loss, but it's generally a good practice to dial the b.g. sound/music up and down so that when the talent whispers or is low it doesn't get drowned out.

Without a doubt we could of done more to make things easier for you to hear. I got a little caught up in the music, which I admit I do when it comes to Star Trek. So, I wanted to share my proudest moment, my characters of the film in costume. They're amazing.

My lead Klingon actor, John Lund, who is absolutely spectacular.

I watched your Friday the 13th fanfilm even though I'm not really a fan of that series, but I could see the hard work put into it. The acting was actually pretty decent.
If you can keep the technobabble down to a bare minimum I think I'll enjoy your short feature. Good luck!

Slightly off topic (but not really) My favorite story about technobabble goes all the way back to TOS. According to "The Making of Star Trek" Roddenberry got a script that had six pages of Captain Kirk explaining how he wanted the helmsperson to reverse course. Roddenberry, tore out all the pages and replaced all those lines with "Reverse Course!" There's a lesson in there for every aspiring script writer I think...

Sorry was in pre-production craziness, I appreciate you all taking some time to reach out. USS Intrepid, I appreciate it, we'll take all the luck we can get. Reanok, thank you, I have a strong feeling that we'll be swinging for the fences on this one and now we've enlisted the very talented Andy Bray as our writer, he played Chekov in Star Trek Voyages, and brings a TON of Trek knowledge to our storytelling. Bixby, thanks for taking time to watch the film, we worked very hard on it and I promise you'll see that very same dedication on this film. The technobabble gets to be a bit of a necessity as we had to introduce all the elements of why Jason came to be. Some liked it, some didn't, but you can't please everyone! Don't worry though, Warrior's Death will be 100% focused on a character driven narrative that I feel should hit home for a lot of us. And Tosk, I think we're safe on that one! lol

My experience is that most technobabble can be dispensed with. TOS rarely did it. It became a crutch on later shows where they felt like they had to explain everything. You don't. As GR said, Joe Friday doesn't stop to explain how his 38 works. I took this same approach in the Exeter "The Atlantis Invaders" script (discussed here), where I only in a few places had a throwaway reference to explain why sensors wouldn't work, etc.

Oh and if you use "shields down to nobodycares percent!" I'm pressing STOP. ;)

I was watching the second season of Discovery a few weeks ago. Each time there was a tense moment and one of the science characters would say something like: ''If we babble babble babble, we should be able to babble babble babble babble barf retch puke!'' I would actually get angry and would sometimes hit my pause button.
This has been going on since NEXT GENERATION and I dearly wish it would stop, because it completely sucks out any and ALL dramatic tension in a scene. Why should we worry if a black hole may gobble up the Discovery or the Voyager, if all they have to do is press a button to save themselves?
Do you remember WHY the Doomsday Machine episode is so fondly remembered? They actually didn't come up with BS space jargon, it was simply: ''the engines are set for self-destruct, flip this switch and BOOM!'' If the Discovery today met up with a planet-killer they would have it shoot a few force beams and someone on Discovery's bridge would say: ''Shields down to 40%!'', then the next talking head would come up with some new Deus Ex Machina ploy, someone presses a button and Zap, it's all over!
For the life of me, I really don't know why Trek of the last 30 years has been trapped in this stupid pattern

Yeah. And in DDM they don't even bother describing what neutronium is, just that "there is no known way of blasting through it." Same with its beam, it's just "pure anti proton" meaning antiparticles. They don't discuss modulating anything to diminish its effects, they just try to stay out of range or its line of fire. In TMP it's just "deflector power is down seventy percent!" and in TWOK it's "not enough against their shields", etc.

I have found the solution to making the perfect Trek! lol - In all seriousness, we are not building our story around Trek's tech, we've been beaten over the head with it, it will be present but it won't represent the story. Our story follows two very different characters who must process the life in front of them, what is worth fighting for, and what is worth dying for. There will be no miracle neutronium spores of radiating teskales that deposit deeply within the rich difranium molecular stem cells which act as a growth desponder built to evansomataly specs. Though that would be fun right? lol

I really doubt it was six pages. :)
I'm sure you're right. I didn't feel like looking it up. But I do remember that there was lots of useless talk and the point is one that anyone who writes a script should know about.

Wanted to share our Klingon Teaser of the film, I feel it really turned out great but your feedback is always helpful and I always listen! I'm also including a couple of awesome Cameo's I got for my actors that you guys might enjoy! Mary Chieffo really goes into depth on her study for L'Rell, her very strong grasp of the Klingon language and she really is quite charming. Of course Robert Picardo is amazing and I smile every time I see him!
