Warren Ellis Challenge: Design the 13th Doctor

Verandi your design looks like a cross between the X-Men character Banshee and Colin Baker...very cool. Starsisupon I love yours...especially with the top hat.

thanks admiral! I figured my design should embody a bit of 1,4,7,and 10 in his look and feel...he would be running around with his trilby hat, blue navy jacket, white and black flats shoes, and white heroes scarf saving the cosmos from certain doom.. and all with a smile..:techman:

I can see him running into a spaceship corridor of sorts, with the white scarf around his face, his blue jacket sparing him from flack of enemy laser fire, and his hat seemingly perched to fall off his head, yet untouched somehow..some kind of deadly green smoke all around him in the corridors, and his bright golden Mirror finish sonic wailing away at doors and dead lock seals, all to rescue his companion(s) and defeat the enemy with his sabotaged earlier jiggery pokery and tinkering on their spaceship's engines.. time is running thin, and as we see him cover his companions faces with the "heroes" white-scarf, just as the doc revs his sonic and the tardis appears, snapping his fingers they jet inside (snapping his fingers again the door shuts) and they escape just as the explosion sets off a massive ball of flaming fury..

a cool quip about gas and combustible flatulence, and a typical doctor smile, and their off again on another adventure..

now that is My 13th doctor!

Both designs are awesome. I love the little medical insignia pin on his lapel, Vernardhi. Also love the personality that comes across effortlessly. He reminds me of a Doctor from the Classic era. Must be the older age, and wisdom in his eyes. There's something very appealing about the look, and he immediately screams "The Doctor" to me. Starsuperion, even though your guy has the most obvious reminiscence of the old Docs (i.e. the Colin Baker-ish tie, which I love btw!), he definitely looks like a modern-era version. Must be the overt handsomeness and slight youthful look. He has that dashing 40's-60's private eye quality that gives him just the right slight amount of flair The Doctor needs. Your artwork is crisp as hell, too. It reminds me of somewhere between comic artists (the late) Michael Turner and Jim Lee.

Either way, both are stunningly brilliant. Reviewing that entire thread, I'd say that these two are easily the most balanced art-with-concept. Some of those are just artists throwing concept to the wind, and just making the most absurd Doctor for art's sake. I love the one with the baby swaddled in Baker's scarf colors, and being carried by the robot named "C.O.M.P.A.N.I.O.N.". Very Jack Kirby in design, and a funny, tongue-in-cheek nod to The Doctor getting younger with passing regens.

All in all, I'm envious of the talent I see here in this thread. :techman:

Thanks folks, I may do up another shot of him in action tonight and show off his sonic a bit, maybe in a variant outfit. A lot of folks are including a companion so one of them folks may show up.

Jeez, 3 pages and not even a howdydoo on the other forum, don't these people realize I need constant validation?

In case anyone isn't watching the whitechapel thread, here is the version I posted:

One of my inspirations actually. I think of him as a cross between Brannaugh and Simon Baker from The Mentalist.

I too did find the companion robot and baby doctor design fascinating. I appreciate the references to Mr. Lee and the late Mr. Turner, two of my most favourite comic artists ever!! placing me in the same category with them has given me much cause to feel overly blushed with pride.. thank you very much for that compliment..:techman:

I have been and always shall be your friend..-Spock (1st reality)

I wonder if we could get a thread going on this forum for a similar challenge. A 'create your doctor' challenge wherein everyone can design their own doctor either through words or pictures, cast them if they wish, describe their personality, write about the kind of adventures they would have, the sort of companion they would choose, etc. and then have everyone vote for their favorite. Seems like we should have enough creative folk around here for such an endeavor.

If he could do a passable English accent Simon Baker would be a great Doctor!

It would be amusing to have three Bakers having played the Doctor as well!

He is Australian and I would never have guessed it without knowing. I think he can handle the job. If Bond can be Australian, so can the Doctor. David Wenham could do well too I think. I just want to see a Doctor over 40 again, as much as Smith has grown on me.

I don't mind a younger doctor, as we all forget tom baker was 39 when he first stepped into the role..I would like to see him younger.. but not younger then Matt Smith.. then it would be way too unbelievable..

Doogie Houser-who??

no thanks.. Matt Smith should be as young as we ever will go..I would prefer an actor with charm and grace to play the doctor.. age isn't really too much a factor..though my incarnation of the 13th is young.. probably 28 to 32..and should be played by a brilliant actor..

I was watching the series Dead like me the other day, and I loved the character of Mason, played by Callum Blue.. he was an alcoholic reaper, with no morals and a funny comedic portrayal that included a bit of clumsiness..

He would make an excellent Doctor, afterall he was the ultimate villain-Kryptonian on Smallville..ZOD! that role he was serious and powerful in my opinion..

not to mention his stint on the Tudors..yep, I change my mind, if It were up to me to cast a 13th doctor in my art style I would vote for Callum Blue..

he was also lord Marchwood in the sarah jane adventures..(hey if Amy pond can be a sibiline priestess, then play a companion, why not Callum blue play the doctor as well??)

here are his stats:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callum_Blue

he has proven his range quite well, and he is a little less known which makes him perfect to play the doctor...

I really like Callum Blue, but he reminds me far too much of David Tennant. I had to google it, I thought they could be brothers.

Tom Baker had the look and voice of a much older man though, so no one would honestly ever guess he was so young.

I think Tom was actually about 40 when he became the Doctor. Did you mean Tennant?

Age is sort of relevant, but not always. To me both Davison and Smith come across older than Tennant, despite both being younger when they stepped into the role, in fact it took about a season of Tennant for me to stop thinking he was too bloody young!
