I wouldn't use TMP for any sort of comparison, because the risk there was that the brand new engines hadn't been tested at warp power, which is not the norm. And in such circumstances it's probably prudent to get as far away from local gravity wells as possible when pushing the Ludicrous Speed button for the first time.
