Warp core in TOS Enterprise

You'll drive yourself crazy reverse enginnering Star Trek, Josh. Things that were common in the later series were less so in Star Trek, if not missing altogether.

That said, it was probably behind the grating in engine room.

Another good answer would be "offscreen". :D

BTW, Josh, if you didn't know it, that set behind the grate is only a few feet deep, a marvelous example of forced perspective.

Probably like asking where the nuclear reactor was on the WWII era Enterprise carrier...nowhere. I always assumed that the engine type we first saw in ST:TMP was new fangled and replaced whatever was in the ship before.

see I'd actually say it's probably the big machine Scotty seems to be hugging, the big bllue tube could be a more sensible version of the clear glass/blue swirly light doodad used in the upgrade.

The more pressing question is, where is the bowling alley? Show me THAT on a blueprint!

Didn''t Scotty pull dilithium crystals out of the devices sitting on the floor in the center left of this picture? Was it in Elaan of Troyius? I'm sure somebody will tell us.

Yup, I'm telling you. Here ...

And just for the heck of it ... :D

By the way, my 5000th post! :D

I go with, "didn't have one"

A core indicates a self-contained system. Elements of what we call the warp core were seen in all kinds of places, and its obvious that the idea of dilithium moderating the matter/anti-matter flow is a logical, but Next Gen, invention.

We saw dilithium crystals in that lump on the floor in Ellan of Troyius and in a wall compartment in The Alternative Factor. Retconning lithium to dilithium, we know they composed circuits (4 total) in Mudd's Women.

We know that the warp nacelles (pods) could be ejected if there was a problem that would result in m/am problems...

So my guess is that the nacelles were a self-contained propulsion unit, with dilithium used in other systems as well throughout the ship.

Nah, because those two units aren't connected, and they move around from episode to episode.

middyseafort, the above picture is part of the following pan, assembled from screencaps. I think I made it but I could be wrong. I've had it for a while. If anyone else wants to claim it as their creation, I will gladly acquiesce.

Here also is the complete hi-res version - 802k, 1010 x 4052 pixels

Duals are against board rules. :p

And you just know I'd win. I have the unquestionable advantage of youth. And now shuddup, old man! :klingon:

Who ya calling punk, poppie?!

(What the fuck is this conversation even about? I want the last five minutes of my life back ...)
