Want Ads: Denver Football Coach

I honestly believe Shanahan is going to wind up in Kansas City. It's within the division, Carl Peterson is out, and I can't see Clark Hunt sitting in his office and saying, "Man, I'd like to hire Mike Shanahan, but I've got Herm Edwards in the coach's office and I just don't think it's worth firing him."

Hunt would also be likely to give Shanahan a large degree of front-office control, as well.

I want Shanahan to end up in Detroit. That's not gonna happen, and we're just gonna get some lame-ass coordinator. I have no hope.

But would Shanahan want to go to another team in the same division?

For all of his qualities as a coach, Shanahan is, by most accounts, an egomaniac, and will want a measure of personnel authority wherever he winds up landing -- and Clark Hunt, desperate for some real prestige for his franchise (which, to be fair, has some decent talent on it), will likely give it up. He won't want to waste his time with Detroit, I can't see him going to the East Coast for New York, and I certainly don't see him wanting to mess with the dysfunctional sinkhole that is Cleveland.

The other consideration is that he just (as in, it was just completed within a few weeks ago) built a multi-million dollar mansion just outside Denver. He'll want to stay somewhat close to that abode, I would imagine.

I do not see why he wouldn't. As long as it isn't the Hated Raiders.

I think it'd be a fairly evil amount of irony if Shanahan were to be hired in Cleveland. The architect of the Browns' two most frustrating losses in history, comes to town to hopefully exact some measure of revenge.....

Uh ... was Shanahan a coordinator in Denver when Elway beat the Browns twice? Because, otherwise, you're mistaking him for Dan Reeves.

[Edit: I see he was offensive coordinator for both games. Nevermind.]

Job's not open anymore.

The Broncos have hired Josh McDaniel, 32, most recently offensive coordinator for the Patriots. What they need to do is hire a GM who can evaluate talent and a defensive coordinator.

I hope McDaniel works out better than some of Belichick's other coordinators have, like Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis.

Now watch.... when the Broncos get their champagne out with their next title, the new coach will be carded. I know... old joke, but man... he really does look young!

Well... coming from a team with a strong offense, this kid gives me some hope. He's no Shanny, but hopefully this will end well.

See.... I've not seen the Denver offense as the problem, but rather the defense. Of course I don't follow them all that closely, so no doubt those of you who do are probably seeing things I wouldn't have noticed.

The offense isn't the problem - one healthy running back, they may average 35 points per game.

Problem is, they'll give up 40 ppg.

I want to see the Orange Crush come back. I'd also like to see a defensive back who could hit like Steve Atwater.

How about another Randy Gradishar or Al Wilson at linebacker, too?

Look at it this way ..... they could have hired Romanowski.

NFL.com has been reporting that McDaniels has selected Mike Nolan as his defensive coordinator.
