I have heard that Shatner does not like touching people. I know that unlike other actors he will not have a photo taken at a con with his arm around you (Ethan Phillips bear hugged everyone at the con I was at). Now someone will probably leap into the thread with a photo of them and Shatner liplocked or something but that's what I've heard.

Whether this extends to shaking the hands of fellow guests I don't know, but I can imagine someone with a real touching aversion would behave like that and it wouldn't be about rudeness at all.

Howie Mandell apparently has a real cleanliness, touching phobia, so, it's certainly not unheard of. He often looked very uncomfortable on that TV Game Show where you open up the suitcases

Last con I was at in January Koenig was quite detailed as to "what was wrong with Shat" as far as working on TOS with him went. It was not pretty.

This just in! Garret Wang states on his Facebook page:

" i am boycotting Shatner...i say again, i am a fan of Captain Kirk and not of William Shatner. He has been far too rude over the years to other Trek actors, myself included, and fans alike. Leonard Nimoy announced his retirement from attending cons in a tearful farewell at the Vegas Con last year. I wish it was Shatner who retired and Nimoy who continued to grace us with his presence."

So, what would "boycotting Shatner" actually mean? Not sitting on the same stage at conventions with him? Not watching Boston Legal? Never ever buying anything from Priceline?

I'm a big boycotter myself. I am constantly boycotting shops, companies, Treklit.. I like boycotting because I can then announce to folks "I am boycotting X" and then of course they have to ask "Why" and presto, I have a soapbox to rant from. It's very good if you like to rant and need to find a way to drop your rant into conversation. Which is pretty much how this gem appeared in a completely unrelated conversation on Wang's FB page. Someone mentions Denny Crane and BOOM the boycott soapbox.

I like rants too! Is fun. but who the hell is Denny Crane?
