Walt Disney World

I last went in 2010 and lately I've been getting the bug to go again. Unfortunately my best friend doesn't want to go, and my old co-worker who might go is currently on a two week cruise so that's not good... I'm actually debating going alone though I really worry that would be a very hollow experience.

What are your opinions on Disney World? Favorite parks, rides, etc?

I don't think there's a bad park, though Animal Kingdom doesn't have much in it for now (this will change when Pandora opens, of course). I guess my favorite would be Magic Kingdom, it certainly has the most in it. I do like Epcot and Studios a lot though (Studios particularly impressed me with all the live shows; Indy, cars, Fantasmic, hell even Beauty and the Beast).

I was terrified of roller coasters for most of my life, and even now I'll only do the minor ones. The last time I went, I did the Disney coasters for the first time in my life: Space Mountain was awesome! I didn't do the Rock n Roll or Expedition Everest or Tower of Terror though!

I've just been reading about this new magic band / Fast Pass system. I love the idea of not bringing my wallet or cash, but it sounds like you get screwed on getting Fast Passes. I just went to Disneyland in September and I rode Star Tours fifteen times thanks to Fast Passes!!!

Having now been to Cali, I have to rank Disneyland the best park overall. It's got all the goods of Magic Kingdom PLUS Star Wars PLUS Indiana Jones PLUS the Matterhorn!

California Adventure was also a lot of fun. Radiation Springs was an amazing production and ride.

Has anyone gone to WDW alone, and was it worth it?

I did, many MANY years ago (like 15). I did enjoy it--but it was a bit lonely. I stayed at All-Star Magic (back when it was brand new) and had a very nice time. However, I found myself getting more tired and worn out than I probably would otherwise--simply because there was no one there saying, "Hey, let's do this next!" I also felt a bit out of place going on rides by myself.

I love roller-coasters--the faster, the better--but I also like finding those quiet little corners that no one else knows about--like Discovery Island used to be. If I had the money, I would totally go to a Disney park without any hesitation.

Fortunately Disney World is 3,000 miles away from that ;)

I actually went to Disneyland about a month before that outbreak. whew!

I'm seriously considering meeting with strangers for it. I post on a Disney World facebook group and when I talked about this nine different women offered to go with me :wtf:

It depends on what you mean by "worth it".

I don't like amusement parks. I don't enjoy a lot of rides because I have a bad fear of heights. I've never been to a Six Flags. I've never been to Disneyland. I was at Universal Studios in California, but that was in 1967 before it turned into an amusement park.

I have been to Walt Disney World, however, during the 1980s while in my mid-30s. I went alone. I did not like the Magic Kingdom but maybe it was a bad day, because the tunnel through Sleeping Beauty's Castle had some sloppy looking patchwork near the bottom of one wall, the place looked cheap because of that. Not a good first impression.

I suppose if I'd had a child with me, I wouldn't have noticed it. They should have them available for rental along with the strollers. I think I went through the Haunted Mansion, or maybe it was a Peter Pan ride, I don't remember. I did the It's a Small World ride against my better judgment, but fortunately it didn't get stuck for two hours. The technology is interesting, but it reminded me of things I'd seen at a World's Fair and at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

I did EPCOT the same day, and liked it a lot better. The Captain EO building was there, but I didn't go in it. I don't remember what I visited except a Hall of the Presidents with the audio-animatronic dudes or something.

I didn't stay in the hotels because I was at a friend's house.

But yeah, I thought it was worth it. Tickets were about half what they are now though. I don't have any desire to see it again.

Stud. ;)

My Dad used to work at WDW in the 90s, so my sis, her kids, and I would periodically go. Stumbling into this thread got me reminiscing and I discovered that one of our favorite little things to do there just recently shut down :( :

(Though the first couple minutes of the video were a somewhat traumatic reminder of all those hours we spent waiting in line at Disney in general.)

Hopefully they still serve the Norwegian orange soda....

I loved Maelstrom as a kid!

I'm seriously thinking about going alone (and possibly meeting up with these Facebook ladies to some degree). Another big plus; I could go to the first day of Star Wars Weekends! See James Arnold Taylor and Vanessa Marshall!

We goto DisneyWorld two to three times a year, we even got married at DisneyWorld. We also belong to the DisneyWorld Vacation Club. So I'm more then happy to help, would love to help.

There is nothing I can think better then going to WDW alone. It's something I've done in the past but would love to do sometime in the future. My wife was in California recently and got to DisneyLand by herself, I was so jealous.

We love the Magic Bands, the swiss army knife of room keys. It will unlock your room door, pay for purchases in the park, allow you to use Fast Pass Plus, all in a hypoallergenic wrist band. Fast Pass Plus is way better then the old Fast Pass, it allows you to schedule 3 Fast Pass Plus rides up to 60 days in advance. So from the comfort of your living room and sock, you will know what you will be riding and when. Of course there are strategies to Fast Pass Plus (FPP) If you want to be a Disney commando, you'll want to schedule your FPP as early as possible. Then once you use your 3 FPP, you can get another FPP by visiting a FPP kiosk. This past trip to WDW in May we were able to get 5 FPP a day with 3 kids.

You will also need Dinning reservations, which can be done 160 days out. Thats for the sit-down restaurants. Be Our Guest restaurant is a must do in the Magic Kingdom, the food is outstanding and the atmosphere is even better.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I was also realizing that I probably haven't seen the Hall of Presidents since Clinton was the new one...I had to Google to verify that they'd made Dubya and Obama.

You can only get new Fast Passes at the park entrance, is that right?

I think it's a little ridiculous that I'm supposed to pick what rides at what time I want to ride on a day that's two months in the future :wtf:

I'm also not happy about not getting to load up on Fast Passes. I rode Star Tours 15 times at Disneyland in September doing that!

I have no interest in expensive restaurants. :p

Well one expects it be hot in Florida and when I went it was wamrer than usual for the time of the year, but I've been to places hotter than Florida, but it's not so much the heat as the humidity.
