Yes thats right!

I was on a first date w a new girl, and she openly was giggling during the opening 10 minutes of Star Trek. I was in disbelief, and it was a major major turnoff she had zero grasp of WHY the film was so enthralling the first 10 minutes.

So I said I had to go to the bathroom right around the moment Spock was being lectured by his father, and never came back!!

Girls who don't get Trek or could even remotely dig the new movie SCARE ME.

Nuff said.

She laughed at Kirk Sr. sacrificing himself to save his crew? As his son was being born? I...don't know what to say.

But you shouldn't have left her like that. Just because she behaved badly is no reason for you to, IMO. But you are well out of it.

A man is sacrificing his own life for his newborn child, wife and 800 other people. And that stupid bimbo is laughing? Forget the fact that it's Trek, she's got some issues.

"Look! Spaceships and a man who's about to die horribly! Tee-hee! This is just so funny!"

Above someone said it was wrong for you to just walk out and leave her there. That may be right. You should have suggested she get herself to a mental health clinic.

Seriously, I know it's "just a movie", but she's LAUGHING at the horrible situation shown in the first ten minutes?

Sheesh!

Well to be fair - the fact that Kirk is being born just at that point comes dangerously close to crossing the line into being ridiculous.

But who takes anyone to Trek on a first date? Unless you met at the local Star Trek fan club.

She laughed during George Kirk's death scene?

I would have left too... shame you couldn't stay and see the rest of the movie in another theater...

Perhaps she just found the sci-fi concept silly, or the overall presentation melodramatic. She's hardly alone in that regard. Indeed, I think it would be more forgivable and understandable than walking out on someone for that mere reason.

Fascinating.

i think i would have asked her later why she laughed..
for some people laughter is an odd defense mechanism..

but really some of my best friends dont like the same things i like..
one of my best friends used to call me a mutant for being a girl who likes nfl football.
got a little bit of irony later when she married a nfl fan.

As a woman and a lifelong feminist, I say you were right in walking out on her ass.

Exactly, I completely agree. That really says something too, I can put up with a lot. But laughing at a death scene..

I don't know about you all, but I was not in the mood to laugh during that.. I was just shocked. :(

Some immature people laugh when uncomfortable or when confronted with serious emotional topics. It's not that they find it "funny" but that they don't know how to emotionally handle the situation, so they "laugh" almost as a reflex.

"during the opening 10 minutes" does not necessarily mean that particular moment of it. Perhaps she found the makeup or uniforms silly.
