Wal-Mart, Amazon, Target In DVD Price War

The retailer, based in Bentonville, Ark., said late Thursday that it would lower the online prices of new DVDs such as "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" and "Star Trek XI" to $10.

But when Amazon reduced some of its DVD prices to $9.99, Wal-Mart shot back by cutting its DVDs to $9.98 as of Friday morning. Target got into the act Friday morning, too. All three companies also sweetened the pot by offering free shipping for the DVDs being sold.
Do I hear $9.97...? $9.96...? Which one of you will give me a free key chain...? Free soda...?

Good!

The prices on DVDs went from $13-$15 new to no cheaper than $17-$18, so bringing the prices down is about god damn time.

Amazon wasn't offering the double disk Trek DVD for $10. I did pick up Terminator Salvation for $10. Got GI Joe for $14. I'll have to keep checking back, though.

When I had money, I got all my stuff from Amazon...DVD's, MP3's...Jetfire toys. :D

It's like the beginning of the internet all over again! Anyone remember 800.com or DVDExpress.com?

Every so often too you can get the store to take the internet price if you don't want to wait for it to arrive.

I guess I know where I am picking up ST IX from. I'll wait for the super-duper editions for when I get a Hi-Def player (and a bigger TV).

I remember Outpost.com, when they did free overnight shipping on everything. I can't tell you how many times I bought some stupid little $5 item and got it shipped free and overnight.

With Best Buy you can always order online to get the cheapo-price, then choose In Store Pick-up.

I still remember when reel.com was out there, before Hollywood Video bought them out. Coupons galore, if you played games and stuff on their site, they'd give you discounts. I don't think I ever paid more than 4 or 5 bucks for any dvds back then, including overnight shipping.

I purchased the Snow White Blu-ray through Amazon for $10 ($20 minus the day-of-release $10 discount). If you look, the deals are out there...
