Vulcan Shuttle from TMP

Almost 2 years ago I put together the Round2 reissue of the Polar Lights TMP refit Enterprise. I just got as a present the Round2 reissue of the Vulcan Shuttle Surak. The Refit Enterprise came with some shuttles and here is a pic of both together:

Here is the model for the shuttle I just got:

Anybody have a tips for me on this one? Specifically are the suggested Testor model paints the best colors for it? I've only used Testor paints so I'm limited to them.

Check out this thread for a discussion of the miniature's colors, as well as scans of the paint chips used to paint the model. If you can color-match them to off-the-shelf colors, you'll be able to get really close. Failing that, follow the HobbyTalk link in that thread, as well, as they discuss mixing Krylon colors to get the right shades.

Is the color right on that bottom photo? Looks like bubblegum pink.

I remember the original 1979 AMT kit came cast in a dark tan color.

Pink and purple is correct for the filming miniature. It was color-adjusted in the film a tan-ish hue. So it depends on if you want a model-accurate or a screen-accurate paint job.

I offer a conversion/detailing set for that kit that adds, corrects and replaces some shortcomings of the kit as is. To be fair though, the problems are because of the way AMT engineered the kit back in '79, not R2.

Not a tip for the shuttle but the paint job on the Enterprise looks pretty sloppy. Maybe try cleaning that up a bit?

Also, the shuttle has Enterprise markings, as if it belonged to the Enterprise. Wasn't it a Vulcan shuttle? Shouldn't it have a different registry?

That's the smaller shuttlecraft that was in the matte paintings/production paintings of the docking bay in TMP. As such, having Enterprise markings on it is correct. The Vulcan shuttle was larger.

That is the shuttle that came with the Polar Lights kit and only had decals for Federation shuttles.

When I finished the model (although I've been doing touch ups every once and a while) it looked good but when I did close up photos, like the one above, I saw all the flaws. I was going to touch those up but my wife said not to because it gives it a homemade feel. Still may work on it but......
