Hi guys,

Can I just confirm Lincoln Enterprise made the following :

XL pendant
L pendant
M pendant
2 sizes of earrings
Keyring
Lapel pin - 1/2 inch

I am interested in collecting, but have also seen 7/8 inch lapel on Ebay

Has someone got a complete catalogue of how many varieties of IDIC Lincoln made?

Many thanks.

Yeah, Memory Alpha has the scoop on the medallion and why Nimoy, et al, had issue with it.

The invention of the IDIC by Gene Roddenberry caused friction between him and Leonard Nimoy, who saw it as a cheap ploy to sell replica merchandise to fans. (I Am Spock) Regardless of its original introduction intent, the symbol, first introduced in "Is There in Truth No Beauty?", was designed by William Ware Theiss. [1]

Gotta admit, William Ware Theiss was one of many very almost-insanely talented people on TOS (and the updated TNG uniforms and a couple other season 1 fashions... the guy was good.)

Theiss was arguably better at sci-fi costumes than Irwin Allen's man Paul Zastupnevich (Lost in Space, etc.), but the TNG S1 uniform was not that great. It looked like a union suit. It was sized deliberately too small for the tight look, and was painfully unyielding on the actors' bodies. To top it off, the choice of material made it impervious to dry cleaning; the suits literally stank after a while, especially in the seat of the pants.

The S3 redesign, a two-piece wool outfit with a collar and constructed shoulders, had a lot more dignity in appearance and was just better in every way. But Theiss shouldn't have taken so long to get there.

I will say, I like what he did for France Nuyen in "Elaan of Troyius."

TNG S1 uniform was not that great in your opinion, but I thought the uniform was perfect to represent TNG's sleek appearance. S3 redesign for the women appeared to be in the same respects for S1's uniform, I felt the men should've had that similar look to embrace their physiques more IMO. I was glad JJ Abrams brought back a well formed outfit for his cast but unfortunately DISCO has applied more of a conservative form of outfit which is sooooo not Star Trek. Star Trek is sexy IMO... UTOPIAN.

With all that bling and flash they're conservative? A little restraint would have done them good.

Agreed. There's so much metallic silver and gold trim on STD's everyday duty uniforms, it makes you wonder what the dress uniform could possibly look like. They're ridiculously overdressed for daily wear. That should have been the full-dress uniform for special occasions.

My least favorite dress uniforms were in one of the later TNG movies, probably Insurrection. They looked exactly like waiters in a fancy restaurant, or possibly the valets who park your car.

I agree. They make the movie-era "monster maroons" look like casual wear.

The later uniforms looked lumpy and muffin-topped. To Hell with with them.

I never liked the TNG uniforms much at all, in either version, until the movies-era switch. They do look lumpy and ill-fitting after the redesign. And my biggest gripe is that the rank pips are very difficult to see because their "height" is lost against the collar. They looked way cooler against the gray (and later division-colored) turtlenecks.

I thought Robert Blackman did the redesign?
