Voyagercast at "The greatest show in the galaxy"

I honestly should have included Jeri in my list of exceptions to my "Fuuuuuck" comment.

Bobby O'Neil aged 20 years from caretaker to endgame. In the future scenes at the end, they just "didn't" put any make up on him. Beltran looked really good for almost 50, which means it really takes it's toll when he starts to look how old he really is finally, and for Wang I'm pretty sure the party never finished, but frankly when you start every morning drowning your cornflakes in speed, you sow what you reap.

I recently saw Jeri on the Flash in 1989, she was on screen for a couple minutes, had a few lines.

Youth doesn't make her prettier, and aging does not make her uglier.

Oh wow theres a thread about a convention that i actually attended :)

I didnt get to see the VOY stage talk but i did get to see the General Star Trek talk that took place on the second day and involved all of the Trek actors in attendance and Alice Krige also i got to listen to the tail end of Robert Picardo and Ethan Philips comedy act whilst i was waiting in line for the DS9 stage talk hearing them sing the Don Quixote song was great Picardo especially has a very good voice :D

i could post what questions/answers i remember from during the General Trek stage talk if anyones interested?

I was there at this convention too! It was my first one, and coincidentally, Jeri Ryan's first UK appearance :)

In the group cast talk, I was sat on the front row at the side and I got a really good view, they all looked good for their 40's and 50's!

Okay the questions and answers that i can remember form the General Trek stage talk are as follows (though they arent necessarily in the order that they were asked in and there are a couple answers that i either didnt hear or forgot sorry)

Q: What did you think was the most scary alien that you encountered on the series?

Jeri Ryan answered that the Hirogen were pretty scary as when they first appeared she had to film a lot just her with this huge guy that was playing the Hirogen and he was physically intimidating. Ethan Philips stated that he once played a Republican in a movie and that was the scariest alien he ever encountered. Nana Visitor and Colm Meaney responded that their characters had issues with Cardassians.

Q: What was your favourite holodeck episode?

Jeri Ryan liked the episode where there were Nazis and most of the crew were French resistance fighters. There were aliens involved of course but she liked that the WW II setting meant they were doing something quite different from the usual. Garrat Wang i think liked the Fair Haven episode at least he mumbled sometihng about wanting to do an Irish accent but not being allowed. Ethan Philips started to repeat the 'I once played a Republican...' line not sure if he gave a serious response. Robert Beltran said that he couldnt remember if it was a holodeck episode or a weird dream episode but he liked the one were he got to be a boxer.
Rene Aubergonois responded that he liked the episode in the holodeck with Vic Vontaine and Nana was there too.
Then he started telling funny stories about Quarks head and how when they wer eon location just the two of them on a mountainside they had to stab holes into Quarks head prosthetic because the altitude was causing it to swell up and another time when Armin left to go home without having the Quark make up removed first and spooked some poor guy.

Q: Any embarassing costume stories?

Alice Krige spoke about how for the TNG movie First Contact she was sown into her outfit and didnt eat anything but did continue to drink. Eventually she needed the little girls room and they had to pick out the stitches so she could go. When she came back onset the costume people suggested creating a flap in the bottom of the outfit and next time she could just stand over a drain and they wouldnt have to remove all the costume. She said no and tried not to drink when on set.
Jeri Ryan reacted to that story by going Yes and saying how she had been vindicated. Apparently she had a similar scenario with the trying not to eat or drink onset so she wouldnt have to inconvenience the wardrobe people but eventually it was making her unhealthy/sick because she wasnt getting the proper nutrition/amount of liquids that she needed so she just decided to go when she had to go and they would announce it onset whenever she needed a toilet break because it usually meant a break in filming for everyone else as well.
Icheb's actor responded that for him the embarassing costume part was that his character had such toght fitting costumes and most of his scenes were with Jeri Ryan and he was at the time a hormonal teenage boy. Ethan Philips talked about how Neelixs costume was made form old curtains and when he needed to go he just went right there and nobody ever noticed. I am certain he was not being serious there.
Rene Aubergonois embarassing costume experience came after he had been eating some pea soup during a break in filming and then headed over to the make up trailer for some touch ups. There was a pretty female guest actress who was also getting some touch ups so he decided to talk to her and thought he was doing a good job of being charming and witty. But then he looked in the mirror and saw that there was bright green pea soup smeared all over his lower face and was very embarassed.

Q: What were your acting idols/influences?

Robert Beltran's idol was John Wayne who he got to meet once whe he was a skinny teenager and John Wayne visited his high school as a guest speaker at some assembly. Apparently when they the assembly was over and everyone was filing out beltran took the oppertunity to walk over and ask to shake his hand and John Wayne apparently had huge hands. Garret Wang responded that his idols were Robert Beltran form Night of the Comet and Ethan Philips and he gave both of them a hug when he announced that. (He was sittng inbetween those two)
Alice krige spoke about how when she was a young actress just beginning her career she stared in a movie alongside Fred Astaire and she always saw him as a great role model because of his dedication to the role he was playing and the air of preffesionalism that he maintined throughout. Apparently he recieved a call during filming to say that his sister with whom he was very close had died. He took a single day off during which ehhremanined in his hotel room but the next day had returned to work and was even filming scenes where he was being thrown out of a car. He was 89 years old at that time.
I cant remember who Jeri Ryans idol was only that she saw him sitting at another table when she was attending a glitzy dinner and realising she might not ever a chance to meet him again went over to say hello even though she was feeling incredibly nervous. But when she met him face to face she ended up trying to tell him what a great guy he was whilst crying quite profously because she was so happy to meet him.
Ethan Philips said that one of his greatest influences was Tenessee Williams who once wrote an entire monologue for Phillips to perform when he had a minor role on Eccentricities of a Nightingale that needed to be expanded in order for the leading lady to have enough time for a costume change. Apparently they didnt use all of the monologue that Williams came up with off the top of his head but Ethan was there writing down every word as it was dictated to him.

Q: What would be the title for you characters autobiography?

Only Garret Wang responded to this with teh answer 'Forever Ensign'.

It was my first convention as well :) I thought it was totally awesome and exactly what i expected a convention to be like. If the trebleace people arrange another one i am definitely going to try and attend.

Did you have one of those fast track passes? The first stage talk i attended (which was the DS9 one) i tried to grab a seat at the front but was shooed away and told the front rows were reserved for fast track pass holders. Unfortunately i couldnt afford one on top of my travel/hotel expenses but a fair amount of people seemed to have them and they seemed quite nifty so if they hold another convention i will probably save up for one but did you think it was worth while getting a fast track pass? What kind of benefits did you get? Alternatively if you didnt have a fast track pass and just got lucky by snagging a front seat without being noticed/shooed away by staff then just ignore my questions :p

Sidney Poitier.

Jeri mentioned this on Twitter.

No, I didn't have a fast track pass, I was just lucky enough that people were filling in the centre block of seats, and I was near the front of the queue, so I went straight to the block of seats on the left and got on the front row! I know people who did get the fast track passes, but I think it just depends on how much you wanted to spend and how much you wanted to do, to be honest!
I managed to get all the present Voyager cast's autographs and a group photo shoot as well as the Voyager group talk without the fast track pass, but I think if I were to go again, I may consider purchasing one as the con was the first by the company so not many people had heard of it, so surely the next will be much more popular!
I really hope they do hold the event again! It would be fab, especially since I have recently got into DS9 and would love to meet those actors as well as meeting the Voyager cast again! :)

There wont be another, the company went broke owing people money.

They tried to do too much all at once, without having a proven track record.

:( Oh, that's too bad! I was looking forward to something similar! At least there's Destination Star Trek London to look forward to! :)

I thought they already had another convention planned in October or November or something?

Merlanthe, thank you so much for your report. It`s really interesting to read.
I`M glad that you enjoyed the panels and the Voyagercast.

@ Merlanthe and Jane 23568 Did you take photos with the Voycast and would you share them with us?

I was at the show on the Sunday and thought that Robert Beltran looked very good for his age and very fit considering he has a young Daughter

I second that.

Mareika i did take some photos but not sure how good they are since people in front of me kept getting in the way. I will post them here once i get around to transferring all my photos from camera to computer.

I know any pics of Beltran with family is a bit invasive, but any photos of his little girl, or at least a description of is she's looking more like him as she grows up?

Some of you have been planning on having children with this man for years, it might be nice to see what you've missed out on or have to make superior plans towards seeing some unexpected courtship rituals through to a squishy conclusion.
