Voyager playing 'Endgame' in God mode with superweapons and armor

hi guys, I watch a lot of Star Trek on DVD and yesterday I watched 'Endgame', it was terrible as an episode and as a finale. Without going into the ethical issues, time travel crap and unnecessary Chakotay/7 BS the thing I really found amusing were the fights with the borg.

Janeway arrives with her batmobile-shuttle from barely 26 years in the future and she brings:

1. Super technobable armor which can withstand 3 cubes firing on it. The armor goes down in small quantities ( armor at 96%! yay! ). Why should an armor have a percentage? Apparently it is very easy to produce and install ( at least they showed them welding stuff on the hull and not simply 'compensating' with their computers ). Of course with 2 Janeways on the bridge they have to wait for armor to go down to 50% before letting loose:

2. Super transphasic torpedoes which can blow up a borg cube in a single hit. (yay! ). So earlier all the fights with the Borg were like:

Picard: It's the Borg! Just 1 cube.
Hayes: Assemble a fleet of 100s of ships and fight them all the way to Earth.

Now they would be like:

Crew: It's the Borg. 47 cubes!
Janeway: Don't worry. Just blow them up with cool special effects.

With this kind of weaponry Feds should be able to beat Species 8472 w/o bioweapons.
After 2 cubes are blown up, the borg adapt to the supertorpedos by running away. Yeah. Wolf 359 anyone..

3. Some Klingon technobabble gizmo that can transport any ship through vast distances and time. Begs the question why Voyager had to use the transwarp conduit. Of course security is abysmal and Janeway can simply transport it out.

4. Stealth technology with can't be adapted apparently ( though the plug and play armor and torpedoes can ). Admiral J takes her Bat-Shuttle right into Unimatrix 01 with this cloak but she cant evade the Klingons and Harry Kim.

5. A supervirus which when assimilated can cause the Unimatrix 01 to self destruct. Mmm.. what kind of engineers do the Borg have. And since when do computer viruses affect hardware ( to be fair this a standard ST issue ). The virus also causes the Borg queen to rapidly lose limbs and flop around like a fish. Some confrontation.

To imagine the effect of this computer virus, assume that the laptop of the captain of an aircraft carrier contracts a virus from the net. Two minutes later, the aircraft carrier EXPLODES. This is precisely what happens in Endgame- fantastic Borg tech.

Finally it is refreshing to see that the computer consoles are not fitted with explosives that blow up when the ship rocks about. At least the engineers got something right.

And all this is with 26 yrs ahead tech. But Braxton's 29th century tech couldn't destroy Voyager even in a few hits ( relativity episode ). Duh..

Voyager in many aspects in my opinion was "trek made for kiddies"

Yes, lets make a finale with all these special effects, big guns and etc which ruin continuity in all factors to make the younger (or the older who are easily pleased) watchers go 'oooooooooooo aaahhhhhh'

When infact an finale I think which would have been received much more highly than Endgame was would be like this -

Find a NON-BORG FFS way to get home within the first hour of the ep.

Spend the final hour showing life adjustment to being back home. Seven's adjustment to earth, meeting relatives. The Marquis crews having to face soem music by authorities and Janeway representing her crew in defence. janeway going to see her lover, see if he did move on. All that sort of stuff...the stuff we had been waiting for for seven years...

But nope, more Borg turned into pussy cats (which started seasons ago in Voyager) and cheesy, barely pheasible plot writing only given weight by average CGI effects. Typical Braga style (at least, what started to become his style over the last few of his trek years)

Overall I find voyager and enterprise the least enjoyable of all the trek series...for their storylines in each ep which seem to be recycled versions of stories already done in trek before, given a different face and place.

As much as I love this show I was highly disappointed by the finale for the following reasons:

1) C/7 is icky
2) The crew should have gotten home due to their own efforts
3) The borg AGAIN
4) Time travel AGAIN

To this day I can't bring myself to re-watch it. :(

They should have stayed in the DQ. A series of Voyager movies would have been a fantastic way to end the show OR keep exploring in the DQ. Instead, we get this rushed job and the writers wanting the show to come 'full circle'.

Voyager movies would have been great, much more potential than a prequel imo.

Voyager movies would be fine as long as you got rid of just about all the production level 'talent' and put the boot to some of the things dragging the show down.

No freakin' Chakotay/7. God, this reaked of All Good Things....

An out of nowhere relationship with the foxiest female on the ship and quite possibly the most unlikely male officer to be involved with this woman. Worf and Troi anyone? What the hell was that about?

What is really amazing is that a cadet was able to reconstitute this very old and tired thread. All things in moderation...except when it comes to moderating a ST:VOY forum.

I've just finished watching all seven seasons of Voyager, and I think the show was fantastic overall. However, the seventh season was very frustrating, and this was one where you just had to throw logic out the window.

It reminded me of somebody clicking the invincibility button in Wing Commander. Still, it wasn't completely outrageous - think of how easily the Breen weapon took out the Defiant before they learned how to defend against it.

I run several boards, and help run a simulation...then I'm also the boss of my own job in which I hire people constantly, i can say this.

Just because someone's new, doesn't mean they are less than anyone else at what they do. Infact they could be better at it than you or me, or the next guy.

This thread has given a chance to discuss, oh yeah sure end games been discussed before but what's so bad about a person wanting fresh views?

I find your comment derogative at best, with little substance of merit.

I see nothing new in the same old bashing being done by the OP.

It's Trek-based...there hasn't been anything 'fresh' in substance since half way through the first season of voyager.

Virtually the same with the majority of fan discussions. I see no big new problem.

It's the 'same shit different smell' syndrome yes, but why bother pointing it out, when virtually every discussion (and any episode made 1997 onwards...) reeks of the same thing? Redundant. Anywho, time to do the intelligent thing...

Anymore views for the Endgame episode as the thread starter requested?

No, but I will say that I found the tone of the OP's post hilarious. Definitely one my favorite Endgame reviews to date. :techman:

Which is why I believe that new posters often offer fresh viewpoints to topics that may seem overdone to older posters. Quite frankly I find that refreshing. Those who aren't interested in the topic though can go read something else. ;)

Speaking of the topic let's get back to it.

Thanks for your replies. To me, the episode seemed to be a pathetic attempt at a mix of TNG: All good things and VOY: Timeless ( both great episodes ). with a cheesy love story of VOY: Human Error thrown in. Even the virus idea was taken from TNG: I, Borg. So there was nothing original about it at all except for the 'god mode' armor and weapons. They completely pussified the Borg and the Borg queen. If you have seen 'First Contact' can you possibly compare Alice Kridge in her flopping about scene to the sensous, deadly, dangerous Alice Kridge of ST:FC "I am the beginning, I am the end , I am the one who was many, I am the Borg. "

Aside that what I find disturbing is the promotion of biological weapons of mass destruction. They couldn't beat Species 8472 so they devised a bioweapon against it. They couldn't beat the Borg so they devised a virus against it ( yes I know it is a 'computer virus' but it behaves more like a bioweapon ). And there is no remorse, no dilemma, it is endorsed as being perfectly right.

Actually there was some debate on using the weapon on 8472 in "Scorpian" and if you watch "In The Flesh" you'll see 8472s reaction to the bioweapon and the consequences for the Voyager crew.

As for the virus in "Endgame" it wasn't a virus that killed like the one Icheb's parents infected him with but rather a virus that would allow the drones to enter into a dreamworld where they would remember being an individual. Viewed that way there's less to feel remorse about.

I think you're mixing up "Endgame" with "Uni-Matrix Zero."

That's not what I wanted to see. Why should I care about our crew meeting all of these folks that they barely talked about for seven years? VOY was all about getting home, and the journey there. They made it home. The last shot of VOY flying towards Earth was the perfect ending for me.
