So, Malcom, what you're saying is that the comparison of Neilson ratings between syndicated shows and shows on certain limited or fluctuating networks, like UPN, really doesn't reflect the show's popularity IF those differences didn't exist. Makes sense.
I wonder if TPTB and advertisers took that into account when they looked at the ratings of Voyager and other Star Trek shows, or if they just looked at the raw numbers? How popular would Voyager have been if it had been shown in the same number of markets as TNG or DS9, for example?
I think this is a significant question, because that perceived popularity/unpopularity continues to drive other decisions to this day--such as new book production, etc. Voyager is virtually ignored in new books, perhaps because the editors at Pocket Books buy into the "Neilsen ratings" misinformation?
