Prodigy opinions from Voyager fans?

Now the second series has ended, I'm curious what people think of Prodigy's handling of Voyager characters 5-10 years (I think? Ish?) later?

Janeway as a training hologram, Admiral Janeway herself, Chakotay (and those ten years) and the enourmous new U.S.S. Voyager? Voyager's EMH? Starfleet building their own Dauntless? Slipstream becoming the norm in Starfleet making the Delta Quadrant easy to revisit...

I watched VOY and liked it at the time (although there were times when I found it to be quite unbelievable), and I thought Endgame sucked balls, and thought the characters should have had a much better ending than that. And along comes Prodigy, which in my opinion is the absolute best Trek show CBSAA/P+ ever produced, and is basically going to be the best follow up VOY is ever going to get. They're using Janeway, Chakotay and the Doctor in new and interesting ways (sorry about your shitty future, Ranger 7 of 9, but hey, at least you're not with a dude as old as your father), and these kids are great and not at all annoying. Too bad the Voyager-A isn't going to last long, thanks to some idiocy in PIC.

I might actually like PRO better than VOY now. It was really a fantastic show. I'm going to steal this from another poster but Chakotay has never been more "animated." The PRO season arcs are what VOY should have been doing all along. The kids weren't annoying, I didn't think VOY's were annoying either though, and the legacy cast all got a chance to shine including, of all people, Wesley Crusher. Bringing Icheb (F U PIC) or Naomi back to help these new kids was a bit of a missed opportunity. As was not bringing Cmdr Harry Kim back to be Janeway's XO as much as I enjoyed Tysess. Tysess did not have that much dialogue so throwing Kim a bone wouldn't have been out of line. The villain was pretty nasty. The Voy-A was cool, the Intrepid and Sovereign classes are my favorites, and it's basically their love child.

Basically PRO is the sleeper hit of modern Trek and in the future it'll hit cult favorite status. It suffered horribly with the current messed up P+ network politics. The flip side though is being on Netflix will give it a much larger potential audience. Fingers crossed for S3+!

I haven't been able to watch PRO yet but as long as they don't kill off or mess upp the characters from VOY, DS9 and TNG by making them ostrich farmers or totally uninteresting in other ways, it's OK for me.

But I must admit that I find it a little too cartoonish.

I think I'll second the notion that Prodigy is the best Voyager follow-up we're ever going to get. I'll go one further and say this may actually be the best depiction of legacy characters in the whole of post-2017 Star Trek.

There have been course-corrections from Voyager that I cant help but applaud. The biggest being the relationship between Chokotay and Janeway, which was lessened with the introduction of Seven. I don't necessarily think they'll go full Riker and Troi, but I wouldn't complain if they did. I cannot shake the idea that this is the future that those two marooned characters from VOY:Resolutions deserve.

Also thinking of characters like Icheb and how I believe, in the event of further seasons, this show will make further course-corrections without piddling on the past or future (perhaps a clever swerve while maintaining continuity). That's really how strongly I feel that the Hageman bros and Waltke have honoured Voyager and would likely continue to do so, given the chance.

In terms of the Dauntless, V-A and making quantum slipstream normal in the 2280s, it's exact what I would have hoped would happen. The new Voyager is larger than expected, and dwarfs both the OG Voyager and later Voyager-B, but that helps to show that successive starships with the same name don't have to have to suffer from incremental growth. An interesting habit starfleet has had until recently.

So yeah, the sleeper hit that cares for it's past as much as it's future. Long may it continue.

I've seen 29 of the 40 episodes, and I regard it as a worthy follow-up. I look forward to seeing the rest of it.
