Voyager fans.. are you disappointed about Discovery?

If they wish.

Although chances are something admitted as being allowable, then any corresponding 'hear, hear' can be assumed sufficiently covered.

You know all of this might be redundant. I'm not sure Discovery is going to make it to air. Strikes.. those pesky writers.

I remember when a writers strike was a serious threat Supernatural's future.

*sighs*

Those were the days.

Is that how you feel? I did wonder you were struggling that others didn't agree with you. However we are all different.

I just prefer interpretations that actually make sense within the context of the material being discussed. I'm funny that way.

The writers and studios already came to an agreement. No strike. Or do you still 'feel' like there is going to be one?

Welcome to my world.. sorry you've had to be subjected to all this nonsense.

We all have a right to interpret and view the show as we do.

Thanks, but this wasn't even about ideas. It was someone pouncing on a word choice of mine here and there, misunderstanding me completely, and lecturing me about things I already know. There are people who go so overboard focusing on technicalities that they end up being wrong, and missing the point of everything said to them.

Because when using the medium of 'writing', your word choice is literally the only thing that can convey 'what you really mean?'

So it's rather important for your sake, that your careful and get it kinda right? And don't, you know... use a word that means the complete and total opposite to what you apparently 'actually' meant?

Communication by writing: one thing in life where your actions really are what defines you! Embrace your inner Batman.

Certainly. No one is arguing against interpretation. I just like clarification when I don't understand another's point of view.

It's funny how the allowance for 'interpretation' apparently doesn't extend to the interpretations of ENT's writers.

Yes. They're actual people capable of feelings and thought, not a bunch of cannibalistic Reptilians who tried to soil our Historical Documents out of pure spite. Who'd have guessed?

I understand that. I also want to apologise for misinterpreting a mistake you made in another forum. I was overly sensitive.

Language is something I adore. I love the imagery it evokes but it is also something that can be twisted and misread and clumsy and all that. I'm even an English lit major (wahoo) and have been called to task for my pees and cues two. Oops ;) It's just the way it goes.

Back to those Vulcans again. How on earth did they ever come up with this??

Live long and prosper. Worth repeating.

To a point I get that. What I find though in reality when another wants clarification they will approach it like this..

So you think Vulcans are noble do you? Really do you think picking your teeth at the dinner table is noble? That (insert something else) is noble? Now already I'm thinking why did I use the picking your teeth at the dinner table as a generic example. Someone is going to get mad at me for implying that they may have said Vulcans pick their teeth and I will have to retract it, lol. Next thing we're all talking about teeth and how obtuse and ridiculous someone is and it becomes a numbers game. How many think one way to how many don't.

So one makes an actual effort to defend their interpretations in their own written style and that still brings on derision. When someone says they would like to understand say, my views about Vulcans, I do try to share them. However sharing invites this need to point by point.. refute. It's the nature of the beast isn't it?

Except for no one brought up "generic" examples. Examples were brought up from the episodes themselves. I don't call forced child bonding, fights to the death, females essentially being second-class citizens and insults "generic" nor noble. But then I know the definition of words when I use them.

Even you said you didn't know if you would find such a culture noble if forced to live in it.

When someone makes a claim: "Vulcans are noble", other folks tend to want to know what led one to that conclusion. What did one side see in Vulcans that the other does not? What is missing. It is disappointing when the best one can come up with is: "it's the way I feel".

BillJ BillJ BillJ you are just illustrating the reaction and behavior I was alluding to..

Oh boy. And before anyone gets all snooty you of course are allowed your opinions.

By the way I did not say that. You asked me a question and I answered "I don't know".
