Voyager DVD's - Is it worth it?

Don't bother. Voyager is a lot of things, rewatchable isn't one of them.

You do know this is the Voyager forum, right? Any more trolling and it's a warning.

I actually agree with him... at least for seasons 4-7.

Went to Borders the other day where they had DVD box sets 'buy two, get one free'. Picked up season 5 of Deep Space Nine, season 3 of Enterprise and season 4 of Voyager. Watched a disc each of DS9 and Enterprise the first night, then watched a couple of episodes of Voyager last night.

Man what a difference!!!

I picked the disc with 'The Omega Directive' and 'Living Witness'. 'The Omega Directive' was a complete technobabble mess. Plus, way to keep it a secret by flashing the code on every monitor on the whole freaking ship!!! I could probably write an essay longer than the teleplay on what was wrong with this one.

'Living Witness' was a complete mess of another sort. Really a whole society was buying into that recreation of Voyager? I kept waiting for Janeway to rub her hands together and laugh maniacally. Would have been a much stronger piece if they had misinterpreted the actions of Voyager instead of turning them into a cartoon. Picardo couldn't even save this one.

Once it became the Seven of Double-D show the quality really faltered.

Edit: By the by... I already own Voyager seasons 2 and 3 on DVD and enjoyed both.

Technobabble? Voyager did not have any more of that than other series.

Did you even read what I said?

And Voyager does have more technobabble than a little sixties series called Star Trek.

And the TOS is the one you are comparing Voyager to? Well, in that case perhaps. But watching TNG and DS9, they used technobabble more or less as much as they did on Voyager.

If you don't like Voyager, you don't like it. But if one starts to analyze every single episode on each series trying to point out every single illogical thing there is, the most likely outcome would be that all episodes in every ST series are flawed in some way. And?

In the end of the day, this is science fiction and entertainment. Taking it too seriously may spoil the fun.

Is this the way it is in this forum? Does anyone actually read the content of various posts?

Said I owned seasons two and three and enjoyed them. But so far season four is shit.

Taking it too seriously? From one of the people that won't buy Voyager books because Janeway is dead. :guffaw:

Sorry, but I never claimed I wouldn't buy Voyager books. So FAIL.

I think you might be in a minory. Season 2 is one of my favs too, but I always assumed almost everyone liked the fourth season most.

Guess I misinterpreted this...

I would be fine if there were no romance storyline around Janeway, but I would still want to read Voyager books with Kathryn E. Janeway in them. I simply want her to be alive. Period.

Sorry. Still part of that weird Janeway clique over in Trek Lit.

Continuing through season 4...

Watching 'Unforgettable' right now. Drop the 'Un' and the name says it all.

Wow. Didn't know someone was paying attention to my posts. Tee hee.

I am not stating there that I refuse to buy any Voyager books, am I? I am definitely buying the Full Circle, even though Janeway is a goner in the end of it. Isn't that a Voyager book? ;)

Yes, I want Janeway to be alive. Not certain about the books after it, though, because I am super skeptic about how Voyager book would work without her. TNG books obviously have no problem with her dead corpse whatsoever. Lol.

But I think that's enough of offtopic...

That is a bad episode.

Rarely do I see a Star Trek DVD that doesn't have at least one good episode on it. With only 'Demon' left on this one, I'm figuring this is one that I won't revisit very often.

Personally?

I would say giving the money to charity has more worth than spending it on Star Trek DVD's...but thats just me. I have purchased many dvd's and still do, but never once have I thought trek dvd's would be a good buy...but again, this is just my opinion on the fact of (to me) most episodes are barely worth watching once. And only rarely some I would watch twice.

Absolutely!
Except the only suggestion I have is to replace "Voyager" with "The Next Generation".
Swing for a home run.:D

No seriously, all the DVDs are worth it. Great quality.

I think I must be the only person in this galaxy who actually likes Demon even though the A plot is not the most brilliant there is. So I don't expect you to praise it anytime soon. Tee hee.

And I guess unforgettable is good in a way that Chakotay is given something to do. So on a general level there are good elements in the episode, but othewise it is one huge 'meh' for me.

At least this set has the 'Year of Hell' two-parter.

Oh wow.

I have watched many Trek episodes over and over again. There are many Voyager episodes I can watch many times and few DS9 + TNG ones. But most of the rewatchable episodes for me are from Voyager.

Wow... 'Demon' had to be the stupidest episode of Star Trek I've seen yet (that's saying something). Just horrible. What are all these people who were left behind going to eat? Doctor said the only difference was what they were breathing. Planet at five-hundred degrees kelvin doesn't seem great for farming.

Just Ugh!

Pretty episode though.
