Voyager Books

Good idea, I've found quite a few old Trek books at my local used stuff store (it's a big store that also has DVDs, VHS's, comics (including Trek ones last time I was there) and CDs).

KB certainly did include as much background details introduced from the first four novels to necessitating reading them less important, but i still think it's helpful to read them anyway.

Although I have never read the previous four books, KB's background details were very helpful to me. However, I kinda felt like I've missed previous adventures and might pick them up some time.

But in my opinion, it's not neccessary to read the first four novels.

Me too. And just to warn you, alot of people on here dislike the first four VoyR books, and some people seem to even hate them. So if you do want to check them out, I'd keep that in mind.

The first 4 as in Caretaker, The Escape, Ragnarok, and Violations OR
the trade paperbacks 4?

Can anyone tell me what the trade paperbacks are exactly? Are they in the line of Voy books? Also, what are the crossover books - what does that mean that they are crossover?

Also, the pose-finale books listed in the SF Library - are they like a series by themselves or 5 completely separate books?

Thanks.

The four you list are the first four Voyager novels. VoyR is an abbreviation for Voyager Relaunch, the books set after the series finale. The first four books in that series are Homecoming, The Farther Shore, Spirit Walk Book One: Old Wounds, and Spirit Walk Book Two: Enemy of My Enemy.

Are you looking at the list at http://www.well.com/~sjroby/lcars/voyindex.html? Everything on that page is a Voyager book. The books listed as hardcovers and trade paperbacks are just that: books that first (and in some cases only) appeared in those formats. Mosaic and Pathways are Voyager novels written by Jeri Taylor, one of the writers and producers on the show. Captain Proton is a series of stories about the Captain Proton characters Tom Paris recreates in the holodeck, in a format sort of similar to an old pulp SF magazine. The Voyager characters don't appear in that book, but it's a Voyager book because Captain Proton only appeared in Voyager. Distant Shores is an anthology of Voyager short stories.

Also, what are the crossover books - what does that mean that they are crossover?
Pocket used to do big events, in which they came up with one big story or a common theme, and published a novel from each Trek TV series, and sometimes books series, in that big event. Those books are referred to as crossover books on the Complete Starfleet Library website. The Day of Honor, Captain's Table, and Section 31 books can be read as standalone novels without reading other Voyager books or other Day of Honor, Captain's Table, or Section 31 books. The Invasion book (listed in the numbered novels section) and the Gateways book aren't quite as standalone.

Also, the pose-finale books listed in the SF Library - are they like a series by themselves or 5 completely separate books?
Those are the relaunch books mentioned above. They are sort of a new series, because they start up where the series left off instead of being more adventures in the Delta Quadrant, and unlike most of the usual Voyager novels, there's a lot of continuity from one book to the next.

Hope this helps...

Read Full Circle before the other relaunch books and admittedly because of the info here didn't feel like I'd missed a thing. After reading the original Voyager relaunch books I did feel like I had a better idea of what was going on. I think I'd have been less filled-in if I hadn't read Before Dishonor and the Singular Destiny books about the same time - they fleshed in the TrekVerse much better for me; a wider scope if you will.
