I just wish people would read the book before being happy she's back. I mean, I'm sure Kirsten did a great job, but she deserves to be praised for what she actually wrote; and how it happened, what it means to the characters and the world, is surely more important than just whether or not it happened. Praising the event in the abstract rather than the actual story it happened in just seems superficial to me -- as superficial as condemning something as "like fanfiction" just because you read two brief sentences about it in a BBS thread. Positive or negative, Kirsten's work deserves to be judged for what it actually contains, not just for some hearsay someone read about a single part of it.

We can't have both kinds of praise?

Pre-reading the book: PRAISE KIRSTEN, SHE HAS RETURNED THE JANEWAY!

Post-reading the book: PRAISE KIRSTEN, HOW IT HAPPENED AND WHAT IT MEANS WAS FASCINATING AND WONDERFUL!

In the meantime, a little question regarding pricing...... This book has just been released for ordering on bol.com, and the price has gone from the usual 7,99 euro to 10.99 euro.
Have Pocket Books raised the price on all new Trek releases, or is it just this single novel?

Hm.... Could have something to do with taxes in the Netherlands going up a bit soon, and some shops are already working in pricing so people can get used to it a bit.

I picked up mine at a store in Utrecht for 8,95 last friday, so I'd assume it's just bol.

Sadly, there are no stores close-by that carry Trek novels. I did email bol.com, to ask why they suddenly increased the price. Two days before the release it was still at 7,99.

And I'm really bummed out now that you bought it in Utrecht, since my girlfriend was there just yesterday, she could have picked it up for me!!

Exactly!

Enough about Janeway already - onto the IMPORTANT stuff :

Are the Federation starfighters featured in this novel ?

Well so far I've only read the last two pages and the first twenty, but Tom has already got his hands on one.

Just dropping in to say a big FUCK YOU to Star Trek Books Community on Facebook for spoiling the end in a newsfeed update. Unliked.
