I have to admit that I've just read the last two pages of the book (which are available online thanks to some certain nice people), however what makes the book OUTSTANDING are two facts:

1. Janeway is back. :techman:
2. she's in Chakotay's bed telling that he loves him.

Thanks to Kirsten Beyer!!!!!!

Nice people = people who violate copyright laws.

Strange interpretation of nice you have there. :vulcan:

Actually not because there is such a thing as "fair use" and the people that posted the pages didn't charge money for them. I would generally think that Pocket Books is pretty glad those pages were posted because it assured the sell of a number of books. The pages do not show the how or the why of the plot. It is a win for everyone.

There wasn't anything showed in those two pages that couldn't be shown in any blog review as snips of the text.

Nice is opinion, you don't have it, but a lot of people do.

:wtf:
Books that sound like fan-fiction to this degree are almost universally bad.

Why is ending up in Chak's bed sounding like fan fiction?

Trek needs more beds.

Do I actually have to explain why what you described sounds like pairing fan fiction?

Considering the utter lack of detail and context -- yes, you do.

Does the fact that fan fiction sometimes focuses on romantic relationships between central characters means that the novels should never feature such relationships too?

Pairing fan fiction is not regarded as bad because it focuses on romantic relationships, but because it does so in a cheesy, merlose place manner, the intent to advocate one's favorite pairing being obvious.
The description read as exactly that. If this is the endgame of the book - well, it's not encouraging.

The "description" was so vague that it could lend itself to any number of different contexts. I would advise waiting and actually reading the book before jumping to conclusions about its content.

Plus it's a logical step from the series...as opposed to what the series ended up doing.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't like either character anyway

I don't even know why this is surprising. The relationship was established back in Full Circle.

Yes and the foundation was laid in the show itself, and not just in a fandrooling subtext way. A lot of people have spent many, many years championing that relationship (not me, lol) so I'm pretty happy for them that it actually came to pass.

Damn. I was hoping we'd get more books dealing with a Janewayless Voyager before she came back. I'm still looking forward to the book and seeing how she comes back, I just wish it had happened later in the series.
Now, I'm not trying to start any fights here or anything. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with her coming back in general, or people who are happy she's back. I just liked the stuff that was being done with the characters dealing with her being gone, and would have liked to get a little more of it.
