vote Star Trek II on the Empire 301 greatest movies

the top 500 was pretty crazy - no Treks at all!, Terminator at #308! (next to Transformers at 309...yet T2 was #35), BTTF2 at #498!

it dosnt look promising :(

poll ends on 14 May so you still have time to vote for

I voted for the Third Man.

I really hope this is dominated by really good well made films and not a bunch of simply popular zeitgeist films.

I enjoy TWOK as much as the next guy, but I can't bring myself to nominate it on a list of all-time best.

I did, however, vote for ROTK as my number five spot.

Oh my, no. TWOK is an enjoyable film, but top 300? Not for me. I did vote for a Star Trek movie, though, as it is my favorite of the genre, and is definitely in my top 50 favorite films.

Which of course means it's like a high school election where the popular kids win, and just about as meaningful. :)

Ah, those heady days! Voting for 'student council'. There was a girl I really had a crush on running for student council, and when she was canvasing for votes she totally knew all of the right things to say to get my vote. :adore: But I think after she got elected, she never spoke to me again. Man, I learned one harsh and very cynical lesson about the way politics works on that day, let me tell you. :(

Uh, where was I?

Oh yeah. TWOK. Well, the greatest movie of all time? Nah, I just can't see it. :p

I'd put it in the top 20 or 30 sci fi movies of all time, so for me, it belongs in the top 300, albeit quite low down.

Other than it has some spaceships shooting at each other what is really scifi about it? Its about both Khan and Kirk acting like galactic sized assholes to everyone around them and the consquences of it. It just happens to be in space.

Are you kidding me? Ceti eels, genetic supermen, planet terraforming weapons, how much more sci-fi does a film have to be to qualify?

Or maybe a magical one - Genesis was an "abracadabra" idea, in no way extrapolative or scientific.

Congrats to Bennet, Meyer, Nimoy, Shatner, Montalban, ILM, Horner and all the rest! a great movie indeed
