I was thinking One Hit Wonders. Sci-Fi TV shows that only lasted one season or less, movies that obviously were meant to have a sequel but none was forth coming, even books that never got beyond volume one.

Any thoughts or objections?

I also thought about doing something along the lines of your first sci-fi influence. Whatever it was, TV show, movie, book, comic, etc, that hooked you on sci-fi.
