Well, the Pegasus probably evolved from the Unicorn, as far as mythical animals go . Hell, I'm reading a novel right now where one of the characters is not a unicorn and not a pegasus, but rather a combination of both. It time-travels too.

It's part of Madeleine L'Engle's series. The 3rd book in fact, called A Swiftly Tilting Planet. She's really good at characterization.
