Well, it has been a pleasure to post the challenge this month. There are a number of fine entries. Now it's your choice to vote for the best. Please vote for TWO storys. The poll will be open for three days.

The entries this month are (in the order of appearance):

I Want To Believe by hellsgate

Illogical by Kaziarl

Countdown by Camelopard

Traces Of Winter by SLWatson

Point Of Divergence by Nerys Ghemor

The Thesis Paper by Mistral

Do You Take This Ship... by perigee

It's Not Heights, It's Depths by trampledamage

Alea Iacta Est by Thor Damar

An Unexpected Encounter by USS Fardell

Strange New World by Count Zero

Man oh man, this is going to take some figuring out... I'll need a cup of tea to ponder this one.

*goes to put the kettle on*

*several mugs of tea later :) *

I've decided.

Countdown by Camelopard and Do you take this ship by perigee get my votes.

There wasn't a single story this month that I wouldn't have voted for, but I had to pick two.

Ouch! Tough choices indeed!

Somehow I suspect we're going to wind up in a two- or maybe even three- or four-way runoff!

Ultimately, I had to vote for "Illogical" by Kaziarl--which was for me the most touching of all the entries, and "It's Not Heights, It's Depths"...which indeed brought a LOT of depth to some characters that really got shorted on their series.

My vote went to Trampledamage, for doing something I didn't think was possible - interesting me in a character from a series I had essentially tossed off as cardboard and surface. He's proven to me that, with a lil Trekkie love, we can even repair the gross errors of the original creators. Cheers, TD.

In a close second is Kaziarl, who has just touched upon the richest deposit of stories that will come from the new film franchise. The relationship between Spock Prime, his involvement with the Vulcan survivors, and the friction between his comfort with emotions and the traditional despise of the concept is going to be the thing of incredible interest in the coming years. Now, dig those claws in and start ripping some roots!

Man, that was a tough choice. A lot of great entries this month. I should have given everyone more than two votes... ;)

Anyway, surprisingly, I didn't vote for any of the ENT-related storys, though two of them were on the short-list. My votes go to perigee and Nerys Ghemor for their unusual approaches/themes.
Honourable mentions go to Camelopard, trampledamage and SLWatson.

I'm sorry, but in the first post of the Writing Challenge thread I stated:

The Challenge will end at midnight on May 30th CET.

I also posted a reminder about the end of the challenge on May 29th.

I'm sorry you missed those.

There were several excellent entries this month. There are no losers here. After deliberating, I voted for Nerys Ghemor and Perigee.

Hey, Perigree--with Count Zero's permission, of course--did you intend to have a second vote for "Illogical"? You were allowed two votes, but I don't see it up on the poll...

My bad - newbie screw up, Nerys. If somebody can fix that on the back end, please do. I made the assumption it was a one-and-done, and didn't read the comments until after the vote. Now, of course, my vote has been cast. ~arg~

No problem! :) You might just want to PM Count Zero just to make sure he knows, but I imagine he'd be perfectly willing.

Well, I PM'd perigee that I can't change the poll, but of course I can tally in his vote for Kaziarl at the end when the winner is determined.

BTW: I'm not a 'he'. :)

Oh man, this was hard.

I voted for Countdown. I love short stories that pack a punch and this more than fit the bill. Anybody who can say a lot with very few words deserves a medal in my book

Point of Divergence got my second vote. I thought the concept was incredibly clever. And I get to decide the ending? Done deal.

I usually pick a runner-up too but this time around I can't make up my mind. A lot of great entries!

What? Vote? Already?

Shit! I haven't read them all yet!

I mean...

:shifty:

It may be a couple of days before I vote, since I'm going to have to...

consider my choices carefully...

for a while...

*Reads furiously*
