Vote for the New Seven Wonders of the World

Why are there only natural wonders on that list? I don't see real wonders. Natural beauty, yes, but wonders?

That, and I can't really choose; these natural places are all beautiful, but none really stand out.

Nothing impressed me in that lot. Being there in person would make the difference. There might be a pig farm, large factory or garbage dump just behind the photographer...

A few of them were prettier than the rest, but I guess I don't know what would make them a "wonder." A waterfall? Okay, so it's taller than other waterfalls, but does that make it wonderful? A mountain? A group of islands? Why are these more impressive than other islands?

I'm not getting why any of these things should be considered Wonders.

Aren't they supposed to be man made structures and not just naturally occurring geological formations ?

The wonders of the ancient and medieval worlds are all man made.

I mostly don't understand why we need new wonders of the world? What was wrong with the old ones? Did they suddenly stop being wonderful?

I can see why we would want to have such a list of "new" structures. They don't have to replace the old ones.

A USA Today list included the Internet. Regardless of how people actually use it, the actual structure is amazing enough to be considered a wonder.

I'm not opposed to having a list of Amazing Things or whatever, but I feel like "The Seven Wonders of the World" is a pretty specific title, and I just think it's kind of silly to vote for new ones.

It's the rebooted versions of course.

The Great Pyramid and the Temple of Artemis are now female, the latter now rendered in full CGI instead of marionette form. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon is destroyed by a red matter weapon, and the Mausoleum of Maussollos is played by Michelle Ryan.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria is a newer version to erase memories of the ultra-camp Joel Schumacher ones. Meanwhile, the clones of the Colossus of Rhodes are disregarded in this new version.

The original 7 wonders are later replaced by the Power Wonders: Ninja Jungle Space Time Squad, with the Statue of Zeus returning later as the Gold Ranger. :bolian:

Sure, but the "seven wonders of the world" list is actually a list of the seven wonders of the ancient world. There are other lists of wonders of the medieval world and so on.

We wouldn't be voting for new ones, just ones that are linked to a specific period.

So this new list is no doubt the "Seven Wonders of the World Before Global Warming Destroyed Them All."

Actually that vote already took place not long ago, maybe a couple of years ago? So we -do- have a list of The New Seven Wonders of the World.

I guess this is, as stated above, a vote for natural wonders instead of man-made ones. :)

^The newest wonder on that list - Christ the Redeemer - was built in 1931. There are others on the list that are so old we don't know when they were built. That list exists largely because of the previous list of wonders, only the Pyramids remain intact.

I would be more interested in what people think are more modern wonders, say things built from the end of the second world war onwards.

I agree that there should be not just one list, but maybe a list for each few different key periods in human history.

The Channel Tunnel
Burj Dubai
Millau Viaduct
The Big Dig in Boston
Kansai International Airport
The Palm & World Islands in Dubai
Three Gorges Dam

A couple are controversial or environmentally unfriendly of course, but all are no doubt massive feats of engineering.
