Voted. I feel bad now. I had an idea, but didn't get around to making the av this week.
Have these contests less often. People care more for things that happen infrequently.
Or if you want to try something completely different,
(A) Organise a game playing contest. Choose a game that yields a score, like a flash game or one that's free to download. Have players post a screenshot of their score. Trust that people won't cheat or photoshop it.
(B) Organise a best screenshot contest. Choose a specific game, or a genre of game. Contestants must play it themselves and get the best screenshot they can. Then upload their best screenshot, and everyone votes for the best of the entries.
what games are these?
the avatar challenges in here seem to vary in their turnout a lot. sometimes we get seven or eight entries, some times we get 2 or 3. i don't think it's anything to do with frequency, it think it's whether people remember to enter, can be bothered or have a decent idea.
I think it's the overall traffic level we get in the gaming subforum... that is to say, not that much.
I think honestly, and this is not meant to be insult, that the subject of realistic shooters is quite a narrow subject. There aren't all that many realistic shooters out there. Most of them are sci-fi. If it were a broader topic, it might be easier for someone to think of something to enter. As it is, I couldn't think of anything, at least anything recent other than the Medal of Honour and Call of Duty games.
A game competition sounds like a good idea. Make it a community ladder like the Babes of the Month, only this time you actually have members competing, and with something that many members here have. What about a Portal 2 competition in honour of Portal 2?
Another idea. We have a few people including me playing on Robert's Minecraft server. We could take screenshots of the different buildings and have people vote on them.

no one said it had to be recent. JOTR is at least 5 years old. i gave plenty of suggestions in the OP - Counter Strike, COD, MOH, Battlefield, Urban Terror, Action Quake... you could've also used one of the Delta Force series or even gone with the M1 Abrams game Novalogic did, or IGI or Rainbow 6...

captcalhoun, don't feel bad. One of my contests was "Characters with Swords". There were only 3 entries. Mine was Ryu (Ninja Gaiden), with Axe Battler (Golden Ax) and an Elite (Halo)
There's lots of characters, but this forum have low traffic.
