I think it's easy: There are just too many contests now. Making it two weeks might be a good idea.

And BigFoot, I feel sorry that I couldn't enter. I just didn't find the time. I hope I can enter more in the next weeks.

And no worries. I often don't find the time (or the inspiration) to create three new avatars (or sometimes re-use old ones) every week.

And yeah, it does seem like there's a ton of avatar contests going on every week.

It's funny you mention the lack of contestants lately, because I was just thinking about the same thing in the VOY contest. It really is too bad. But there sure are a lot of other contests around this place now. This wasn't the case when we first started doing the VOY ones. There were only a few. Now it seems as though every forum has one.


Maybe the Niner forum and the Voyager forum should form an alliance and do one contest every other week alternating.

^We could unify the Theme and/or Random Theme contests of the different Trek contests and have it in the General Trek Forum. That would reduce the number of actual avatars someone has to make when s/he wants to participate in every contest.

I would say each individual forum should keep the episode category at the very least, though.

Yeah, I was just responding to NCC-1701's comment about only having one general trek contest, and wanted to make clear that I would like to at least keep the episode related individual contests.

But I think the category which would be the preferable one to be axed or unified would be the random theme category , since that one really has little/nothing to do with the individual series.

ETA: We could to a general Trek theme contest instead of the individual Random theme contests, for example.

^ Personally I don't think it's the category itself that's the problem. I think it's more to do with the fact that there are so many different avatar contests going on all the time. I barely find the time to make avatars for this one, I've never even considered making avatars for any of the other contests.

So yeah, if people won't object, I think the first step will be to do the contest on a bi-weekly basis (let's say 9 or 10 days to enter avatars and 4 or 5 to vote). I'm hoping that'll improve the situation. If that doesn't work, more drastic measures will have to be taken (like changing or removing a category). Hopefully it won't come to that.

I was half joking, if only to make PKTrekGirl faint from the mere notion of the two forums actually forming an alliance.

But it does make sense to pool our resources, since a lot of the same people enter both contests. I hadn't looked into the other Trek forums in awhile and didn't realize that they were all running av contests now too. I don't know if they would want to be included or not in this. But for the two forums I was thinking every other week the DS9 forum or the VOY forum could host the contest, depending on which episode the contest was focusing on. The theme entry could be from both shows. Of course the random entry would be from anything. What do you guys think?

^ Oh see your plan is even more.... advanced then mine. I thought we'd just do it the way it us now, except that the contests would run on a bi-weekly basis and they wouldn't overlap (so one weekend people would be voting in the DS9 contest and the next weekend they'd be voting in the VOY contest). That way people wouldn't have to make avatars for both contests every week.

I'm fine with a schedule, provided that all sides can follow it I will admit that my Wed/Thurs evenings of making 15 avatars can be a bit tiring

So do most of the people that enter avatars in the DS9 contest usually also enter avatars in the other contests? Like I said before, I don't really pay any attention to any of the other avatar contests.
