VIEWMASTER

Stompy

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Years ago I found a website that had all of the viewmaster reels from "The Omega Glory" up online.

I've tried Googling it but can't seem to find it...

Any of you "enterprising" fans out there know where it is?

Therin has some good shots and Fred over on my star trek scrapbook has some good scans but I was wanting to find all the shots.

I have the reels themselves but no real way to scan them...

Maybe the site is down, or gone. I do remember it.

Well, the problem with publishing all 21 pairs (or all 42 pics) on the web is that it goes way beyond "fair use". The owner of the current View-Master license, and CBS, would be well within their rights to shut such a site down.

BTW, you must check out the "Bonanza" shot at:

I love those ViewMaster shots of the Enterprise. I had tried to re-create them recently (here), but only had limited success. As a kid I really wanted that model of the Enterprise... and I've been getting closer with each try. :techman:

That is fricking hysterical!

I had those reels as a kid. I sure wish I had kept them.

They're easy enough to find, if you want them. I snagged the original Trek and the Animated series for pretty little money on eBay. Even got the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea reels.

The guy at the site has a point, though: why, out of all episodes, did GAF choose The Omega Glory for the viewmaster reels? I mean, jeez.

Be careful buying those old reels. Many have turned magenta over the years due to improper storage. And I'm sure everyone will want to see the green command shirt in all its green glory!!! :scream:

The answer is simple, GAF did not decide to use The Omega Glory, Gene Roddenberry did. Since Gene wrote TOG, it was an extra paycheck for him.

Exactly. GAF's stereo camera operator had little choice what episode would be shooting the week they visited a TV series set. Knowing GR as we do, it was probably more than happy coincidence that a GR script was to be adapted. Royalties!

However, on paper, it probably seemed like a good choice. Crewmen turned to crystals, two starships sharing a scene, alien planet, cave scenes, hand-to-hand combat... Plus the fact that it had been one of GR's potential second pilot scripts.

Had they been able to plan way in advance, the most colourful/popular episode to do in 3D might have been "Journey to Babel". But, on paper, JtB was essentially a "bottle show", and the fact that it would be filled with colourful one-day-to-be-iconic UFP aliens wouldn't be as obvious from a reading of its draft script.
