Vidiian Organ Harvesting

Dingo

Captain
Captain
For one of my Voyager fics I'm writing Peter Durst's death scene when he gets put through Organ Processing. I wonder how it works in a laboratory setting vice just getting shot with an organ extractor? Do they keep victims conscious as they process every part of them? I figure I can be as creative as I want but I'm trying to avoid making it into a Hostel-like or gore-fic like thing.

For one thing Dingo, they harvested organs with a very sophisticated transporter. Are the victims awake, well Neelix was when they took his lungs. but I don't see Viidians as overly cruel. They are however dangerously desperate to the extreme.

I figure the process is almost instantaneous but I'm kinda wanting to write Durst's last moments. I imagine expediency or perhaps they keep the victims alive and conscious to ensure organ freshness...

I think what those two Vidiians did to Neelix with that teleport-gun was just exclusive to them because they were on their own. The Vidiians in "Faces" had a big lab so I think they'd be slower and less painful with their organ harvesting.

I am thinking of something like a transporter hooked into multi-compartment stasis chamber. Maybe the brain was still alive in stasis like conditions. Imagine being that 1/2 alive brain in stasis as they take small chunks of brain tissue away to use on their own brains............ creepy. What if they need to feed the stored brain stimulus in order to keep it functional for transplant..... even creepier......

Maybe the poor crewman thinks he escaped but as pieces of his brain are removed he realizes he didn't escape....

I am imagining hallucinations of this brain like something out of 2001 only more sinister....

A little imagination and the OP can make a really creepy good fanfic for Halloween....

Poor LT Durst. That'll be part of my Lower Decks series when I get to the episode Faces. Right about now I'm writing on the second Voyager episode.

I'm also writing where Durst's girlfriend, encounters Sulan at some point in the future. I'm sure she'd be horrified to see a Vidiian wearing the face of her boyfriend...

Overly Cruel?
They take body organs out while the victim is awake, you'ld think that if their harvesting/transporter could take one at a time in the case of lungs.?

Like I said, I think stealing from others when they are awake was just something those two Vidiians did. Others who have access to better labs and such would at least tranquilize their victims.

Why couldn't the Vidiians grow new organs in a factory? why not build technology to replace organs?

I never really understood why the Vidiians needed to steal organs.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that. They managed to create two B'Elannas after all.

Maybe someone could make up a Treknobabble for it.

Why not grow new ones? Because the Phage was destroying theirs too fast, and once the Phage adapted to the particular organs they were useless for helping anyone. As for tech, the Phage was in their DNA so they'd have to go total robot eventually.

Still doesn't make sense. If they grew them in massive factories then there'd always be a supply no matter how fast the phage destroyed their previous organs, supply and demand. By growing many multitudes of organs of different DNA they'd stay ahead of the phage.

I thought it was explained in an episode that their genetic code had already been afflicted by the Phage which meant all of the cloned organs would be just as infected as they were.

All the Vidiians need to do is go around taking DNA samples from different people and races and then send them back to the factory for processing. The factory could then pump out thousands of organs a day, each organ being of a different genetic code.

Seeing how the Phage adapted so well to each individual Vidiian and the organs they'd been harvesting for 2000 years, I doubt that'd work for long. It would've adapted to the entire species and thus any organs from them wouldn't last long.

:cardie:

I don't think you're following what i'm saying. What I am proposing not only adequately replaces their need to steal new genetic organs but also creates a steady continuous supply of organs.

In the case of Neelix for example when he had his lungs stolen, instead they could have taken a sufficient DNA sample, sent it to the factory and then the factory could have started growing Talaxian organs, by the time the phage had adapted to the Talaxian organs the Vidiians would have recieved dozens of new DNA samples from other species such as Humans, Vulcans, Kazon etc etc etc and already have the organs grown and ready for implantation.

By keeping a steady flow of DNA samples into the factory the factory or factories would keep one step ahead of the phage.
Their level of technology is also no doubt at a level and efficient enough to grow the organs quite quickly.

Perhaps there's something in their cloning process that doesn't allow for them to grow proper organs and they have to have an actual sample for the transplant.

Or maybe, like I said, what those two Vidiians did to Neelix was just what those two guys do on their own and the majority of the Vidiians have a better manner of acquiring their non-Vidiian parts. That big prison lab could easily have been for test subjects and not just organ harvesting.

Also, the Phage is one mean mother. It's present in the DNA of the Vidiian species and easily adapts to foreign alien graftings no matter how diverse. Getting all those samples would just be a temporary solution until a truly resistant sample was found.
